Federal authorities in Hawaii have charged a 45-year-old Honolulu man after an FBI investigation linked him to the theft of several firearms, rifles, and ammunition from a Pearl City storage facility — weapons he was legally barred from possessing due to a long criminal record.
Sidney Campbell, 45, was charged by federal complaint with illegal possession of firearms as a convicted felon. Investigators allege that Campbell, a repeat offender with six prior felony convictions — including first-degree burglary in 2001 — broke into a Pearl City storage locker on October 25, 2025, and stole multiple weapons and ammunition.
According to the complaint, surveillance footage captured Campbell forcing entry into the locker before removing several firearm cases. On October 27, FBI agents identified him from the video and initiated a coordinated arrest operation with the Honolulu Police Department (HPD). Campbell was taken into custody shortly afterward.
Upon questioning, Campbell admitted to the break-in and provided details that led agents to the recovery of the stolen cache — three pistols, six rifles, and numerous firearm components, including barrels, firing bolts, magazines, and two suppressors. Investigators also confirmed that he had previously possessed and transferred a loaded firearm on May 15, 2025, in violation of federal law prohibiting felons from handling weapons or ammunition.
The case, brought by Acting U.S. Attorney Ken Sorenson of the District of Hawaii, stems from the joint work of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Honolulu Police Department, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). The investigation forms part of Operation Take Back America — a nationwide Department of Justice initiative targeting illegal weapons trafficking, violent crime, and organized transnational criminal networks.
If convicted, Campbell faces up to fifteen years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000. Federal prosecutors emphasized that the charge remains an allegation and that Campbell is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Sentencing, if warranted, would be imposed under the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and applicable statutory factors.
This case underscores the growing federal effort to combat gun theft and illegal possession in the Pacific region — particularly incidents involving repeat offenders with extensive criminal backgrounds. Federal agents say the quick recovery of the stolen weapons likely prevented their circulation within Hawaii’s underground arms market.

This one sounds like a cut and dry case. And, Whew! I feel like a disaster was averted here. This guy should get the maximum sentence and this case need to be communicated to all such storage facilities. Anyone having weapons like this needs adequate security!
