FBI Houston Seeks ‘Subzero Suspect’ After Armed Bank Robbery at Frost Bank

Federal investigators in Houston are intensifying their search for an armed robbery suspect following a daylight bank heist that unfolded with calculated precision inside a southeast Houston financial institution, prompting a public reward offer and expanded task-force activity.

According to authorities, the robbery occurred at approximately 9:05 a.m. on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at a Frost Bank branch located at 9990 Almeda-Genoa Road. The suspect entered the bank shortly after opening hours, produced a black handgun, and immediately asserted control over the lobby by ordering employees to the ground at gunpoint. Investigators state the sequence of commands and movements suggests familiarity with bank layouts and response timing rather than impulsive criminal behavior.

Once compliance was established, the suspect moved quickly, collecting an undisclosed amount of cash before exiting the building on foot. No customers or employees were physically injured during the incident, though federal officials emphasized that the absence of injuries does not reduce the severity of the offense given the use of a firearm and the clear threat of lethal force.

The individual, now referred to by investigators as the “Subzero Suspect,” is described as a Black male believed to be in his late 20s to early 40s, approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall, with a thin build. During the robbery, he wore a lime-green ski mask, a gray jacket, black pants, black shoes, and white gloves—a combination that investigators believe was intentionally chosen to obscure identifying features and prevent trace evidence such as fingerprints or DNA transfer.

The investigation is being led by the FBI Houston Field Office through its Violent Crime Task Force, which is reviewing surveillance footage from inside the bank, nearby businesses, and traffic corridors surrounding the area. Analysts are also examining the suspect’s escape path to determine whether a secondary vehicle or accomplice may have been staged nearby, despite the initial on-foot departure.

Federal authorities have not indicated whether the firearm used was discharged or whether the suspect spoke during the robbery beyond issuing commands. Both factors are being evaluated as part of behavioral analysis intended to narrow suspect identification.

To accelerate public assistance, Crime Stoppers of Houston has announced a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the identification and arrest of the suspect. The FBI has emphasized that armed robbery cases involving firearms are treated as federal violent crimes due to the inherent risk posed to civilians and employees, regardless of whether shots are fired.

Authorities reiterated that bank robberies executed with this level of control often indicate prior surveillance or rehearsal, and they are urging anyone with information about suspicious activity in the Almeda-Genoa area in the days leading up to January 27 to come forward.
