CARTEL-ALIGNED FENTANYL CASE: TWO MEXICAN NATIONALS REMOVED TO FACE FEDERAL CHARGES IN NEW MEXICO

Two Mexican nationals have been removed to the United States and are now in federal custody in New Mexico to face charges tied to fentanyl trafficking and international money laundering activity alleged to have spanned multiple years.

Daniel Alfredo Blanco-Joo, 39, made his initial appearance in federal court following his removal from Mexico. A superseding indictment filed in the United States District Court for the District of New Mexico charges Blanco-Joo with conspiracy to distribute fentanyl, multiple counts of distribution involving 40 grams or more of fentanyl, distribution of 10 grams or more of a fentanyl analogue, and international money laundering conspiracy. The charging document identifies Blanco-Joo by known aliases and outlines distribution activity in Bernalillo County and elsewhere between November 2021 and November 2022.

The indictment alleges violations of 21 U.S.C. § 846 for drug conspiracy, 21 U.S.C. §§ 841(a)(1) and (b)(1)(B)(vi) for fentanyl distribution involving statutory weight thresholds, and 18 U.S.C. § 1956(h) for international money laundering conspiracy. The fentanyl counts involve quantities triggering enhanced federal sentencing exposure, including mandatory minimum penalties. The analogue charge references distribution of a substance chemically related to fentanyl, treated under federal law as equivalent when intended for human consumption.

Court filings further allege that proceeds from the drug distribution were transported, transmitted, or transferred from Albuquerque, New Mexico, to the Republic of Mexico, with knowledge that the funds represented unlawful narcotics proceeds and were structured to avoid reporting requirements. The indictment includes forfeiture allegations seeking the seizure of property constituting or derived from drug trafficking proceeds, as well as substitute assets up to the value of forfeitable property if original proceeds cannot be located or have been commingled.

David Eliezer Seas-Centeno, 43, also made his initial appearance after removal from Mexico. He is charged with conspiracy to distribute fentanyl under federal narcotics statutes. According to federal authorities, agents assumed custody of both defendants from Mexican officials on January 21, 2026.

If convicted, both defendants face a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in federal prison and a potential maximum penalty of life imprisonment. Sentencing determinations will be governed by federal statutory thresholds and the United States Sentencing Guidelines, which weigh drug quantity, role in the offense, criminal history, and other relevant factors. Convictions on money laundering conspiracy charges can carry additional penalties and financial forfeiture exposure.

The case is being prosecuted in the District of New Mexico by Assistant United States Attorneys David B. Hirsch and Blake Nichols. The investigation forms part of a coordinated federal enforcement effort focused on dismantling transnational narcotics distribution networks operating across the Southwest corridor.

The superseding indictment constitutes a formal allegation returned by a federal grand jury. The defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
