Orlando Man Convicted in Federal Sextortion Scheme Targeting More Than 50 Child Victims

A federal jury in the Middle District of Florida has convicted a 20-year-old Orlando man of multiple federal child exploitation offenses after prosecutors presented evidence that he orchestrated a prolonged online sextortion campaign targeting more than 50 minors across the United States.

Montrey Roseberry was found guilty of three counts of coercion and enticement of a minor to engage in sexual activity, three counts of production of child sexual abuse material (CSAM), and one count of possession of CSAM. Under federal law, Roseberry now faces a potential maximum sentence of life in prison. Sentencing is scheduled for May 28, 2026.

According to testimony introduced at trial, the scheme operated from at least July 14, 2023 through April 2024. Prosecutors stated that Roseberry used social media platforms to identify and contact minors, frequently impersonating a female persona to lower suspicion and establish trust. Once communication was established, investigators said he persuaded victims to send sexually explicit images or videos of themselves.

After obtaining those initial materials, authorities testified that the interaction shifted from manipulation to coercion. Prosecutors told jurors that Roseberry used previously obtained images to threaten victims with exposure if they did not comply with escalating demands. In multiple instances, victims were told that the material would be sent to parents, classmates, or posted publicly online.

Trial evidence showed that Roseberry allegedly reinforced threats by sending victims photographs of their homes along with names of family members, schools, and acquaintances. Federal authorities stated this tactic was designed to create the impression of immediate physical proximity and surveillance. In some cases, prosecutors said, he issued direct threats of death to force compliance.

Investigators further testified that the coercion escalated over time, with demands for increasingly extreme and degrading content. Federal prosecutors characterized the conduct as a sustained pattern of intimidation designed to exploit fear, shame, and social vulnerability. By the time the scheme was uncovered, authorities reported that over 50 minors had been victimized.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation led the investigation. The prosecution was handled by Assistant United States Attorneys Noah P. Dorman and Kaley Austin-Aronson.

The case was brought under the Department of Justice’s Project Safe Childhood initiative, a nationwide enforcement strategy launched in 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and online predation. The program integrates federal, state, and local law enforcement resources to identify offenders, rescue victims, and pursue federal charges in cases involving interstate digital exploitation.

Federal authorities continue to emphasize that sextortion schemes remain one of the fastest-growing forms of online exploitation targeting minors. Law enforcement agencies have repeatedly warned that offenders frequently rely on impersonation, social engineering, and digital blackmail tactics to trap victims. Once images are obtained, coercion becomes the primary tool of control.

Roseberry remains presumed innocent until sentencing is formally imposed, but the jury’s verdict concludes the trial phase of the case. Sentencing will be determined under federal guidelines and statutory maximums, with the court considering the scale of victimization, coercion methods, and long-term psychological harm inflicted.

Federal officials continue to urge parents and guardians to maintain active awareness of minors’ social media interactions, particularly when unknown individuals request private communications, personal information, or images.

The court will issue final sentencing in May.
