Session #297 concludes with command-level officers from Northern California agencies joining global network of trained law enforcement leadership

Three law enforcement professionals from agencies within the FBI Sacramento Field Office’s 34-county area of responsibility have graduated from FBI National Academy Session #297, completing a 10-week advanced training program conducted at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia.

The graduates are:

Deputy Chief Edward Criado II — Benicia Police Department
Captain Brandon Spear — Yuba County Sheriff’s Office
Lieutenant David Smith — Placer County Sheriff’s Office

The FBI National Academy Session #297 graduation took place on March 19, 2026, marking the completion of a program designed to enhance leadership capability, operational strategy, and interagency coordination across law enforcement agencies.

All three graduates successfully completed the Academy’s structured curriculum, which includes rigorous academic coursework and physical fitness requirements. The academic component is accredited by the University of Virginia and focuses on subjects relevant to modern law enforcement operations, including leadership development, investigative strategy, and evolving public safety challenges.

The program brings together participants from local, state, federal, military, tribal, and international law enforcement agencies, creating a collaborative environment for the exchange of operational knowledge and experience. This structure supports long-term coordination and information-sharing across jurisdictions.

On average, participants in the FBI National Academy have approximately 21 years of law enforcement experience and are selected based on their demonstrated leadership potential. Graduates typically return to their agencies to serve in executive or senior command roles.

The FBI National Academy has evolved in name and curriculum over time but continues to focus on improving the administration of justice, strengthening law enforcement standards, and enhancing cooperation among agencies both within the United States and internationally.
