ADT Inc., a leading provider of home security systems, disclosed on Wednesday that it had experienced unauthorized access to its customer order databases. The intrusion, which was recently detected and reported in an SEC filing, prompted immediate action from the company to secure the breach.
Upon discovery, ADT swiftly implemented measures to prevent further unauthorized access and initiated a thorough investigation with assistance from cybersecurity professionals. The attackers were able to obtain a limited set of customer data, which included contact details such as email addresses, phone numbers, and residential addresses.
The ongoing investigation has not found any indications that the intruders gained access to the operational aspects of customers’ home security systems. Furthermore, there is currently no evidence to suggest that sensitive financial information, like banking details or credit card numbers, was compromised.
ADT has been proactive in notifying the affected customers, who represent a minor fraction of the company’s total subscriber base, about the security incident. Despite the breach, ADT maintains that the event has not had a significant effect on its business operations, as stated in their recent SEC filing.
