The FBI has confirmed that it is investigating the recent breach of former President Donald Trump’s campaign, following allegations from the campaign that the intrusion was orchestrated by Iranian hackers. The investigation comes on the heels of a report by Microsoft, which revealed that operatives linked to Tehran targeted an unnamed presidential campaign as part of a broader effort to influence the U.S. election.
In response to the leak of an internal vetting document concerning vice presidential nominee Sen. JD Vance (R-OH), the Trump campaign accused “foreign sources hostile to the United States,” specifically Iran, of the breach. The campaign’s accusations are based on Microsoft’s findings and other intelligence suggesting Iranian interference.
Additionally, recent reports indicate that the FBI is also probing attempted cyber intrusions targeting the Biden-Harris campaign. According to the Washington Post, this investigation began as early as June, prior to President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw from the race.
The broader context of these investigations is underscored by concerns from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, which recently highlighted that Iran, along with Russia and China, are likely to engage in election interference. The DNI report noted that Tehran appears to favor the Democratic candidate, perceiving that a Democratic administration might be less likely to escalate tensions between the two countries.
The breach has sparked significant concern on Capitol Hill, reminiscent of the 2016 Russian cyber attacks that compromised Hillary Clinton’s campaign emails and targeted voter registration databases. Lawmakers are increasingly wary of potential foreign meddling as the November elections approach.
Rep. Eric Swalwell (CA), the ranking Democrat on the House Homeland Security Committee’s cybersecurity subpanel, has publicly requested a briefing on the situation via social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.
Sources familiar with the matter indicate that the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) is preparing a briefing for lawmakers, although the timing remains uncertain. CISA has deferred comment to the FBI regarding the ongoing investigations.

I am so glad you and others are keeping an eye on those who would try to throw our country off guard and cause a lot of confusion over elections.
