There’s so much hate, it splits the seam,
Like fire siphoning gasoline.
A wild spark, a dangerous game,
Our love and hate—they’re one and the same.
You’re the curse I can’t ignore,
The poison seeping through my core.
I bite my lip, you fan the flames,
We dance through danger, call it names.
We ignite with passion, quick and hot,
Yet simmering rage is all we’ve got.
A push, a pull, a sly deceit,
Our love’s a war that won’t retreat.
A spark that blazes, fades to smoke,
But one fierce glance, and we provoke
The flames again, we’re tinder-dry,
Bound to combust or bleed us dry.
You’re the razor’s edge, I’m the nerve,
We swerve too close, then lose our verve.
An inch too far, an inch too near,
And either way, there’s danger here.
Oh, how we burn, yet won’t release,
A torture sweet, a war with peace.
It’s twisted, true, but fuels us still,
A battle’s scar, a lover’s thrill.
So here we stand, on burning ground,
No truce, no cease, no middle found.
For I hate you just as much as I ache
To fan these flames that only break.
We’re bound by fire, fierce and free,
Locked in love’s strange tyranny.
No exit here, no cooling rain,
Just ash and cinders, thrill and pain.
I hate you, love you, both so much—
A fevered bruise, a poisoned clutch.
And as we blaze, fierce flames compile,
This fury, love, we can’t exile.
In each searing breath, my lungs consume
The essence of our love’s perfume,
Like embers hot, like sulfur’s kiss—
A twisted bond of hate and bliss.

Sounds like my parents’ marriage. 60 years of it.
Wow, 60 years—there’s something powerful in a bond that can withstand that much intensity over time. It’s amazing how love and conflict can coexist like that, keeping things alive in a way that’s both beautiful and challenging. Thanks for sharing that, Sheila—your parents sound like they had a truly unique connection.
They sure did, John. What a beautiful way to say it. I always appreciate your words.
