The National Security Agency (NSA) has launched an investigation into the alleged misuse of a classified chat platform, as Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard confirmed the termination of more than 100 intelligence officers implicated in the scandal.
“NSA is aware of posts that appear to show inappropriate discussions by IC personnel. IC collaboration platforms are intended to drive mission outcomes,” the agency stated in a post on X Tuesday. “Potential misuse of these platforms by a small group of individuals does not represent the community. Investigations to address this misuse of government systems are ongoing.”
The platform, designed for high-level intelligence collaboration on national security matters, was reportedly misused by a group of intelligence personnel to engage in discussions of a sexually explicit nature, according to sources familiar with the matter.
The revelations were initially brought to light by a right-wing activist, prompting immediate scrutiny.
In an interview on Fox News Tuesday night, Gabbard confirmed she had taken swift action, ordering the termination of over 100 intelligence officials who had “contributed to and participated in what is really just an egregious violation of trust.”
“Those involved were brazen in using an NSA platform intended for professional use to conduct this kind of really, really horrific behavior,” Gabbard stated.
She further revealed that since announcing the terminations, additional intelligence personnel have come forward with more reports of inappropriate activities.
“They are all on board with the mission to clean house and refocus on our core mission of serving the American people,” she said.
The investigation into the full scope of the misconduct is ongoing, as Gabbard and the NSA push for stricter oversight and accountability within the intelligence community.
