An active-duty U.S. Marine has been arrested after allegedly crossing multiple state lines to kidnap and sexually assault a 12-year-old girl from Hammond, Indiana — a case that has now drawn the full force of the FBI, U.S. Marshals, and military investigators.
According to federal filings, William Richard Roy, 24, stationed at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, flew to Chicago on October 24, 2025, before taking an Uber to Hammond, Indiana. Investigators say Roy had been in contact with the girl online and lured her to meet him at a local park. The following day, the two reportedly traveled together by rideshare back to Chicago, spent the night in a hotel, and then boarded a Greyhound bus bound for Durham, North Carolina.
The girl’s grandmother reported her missing to the Hammond Police Department on October 25, triggering an immediate joint investigation led by the FBI Indianapolis Field Office’s Merrillville Resident Agency. With coordination between FBI Chicago, FBI Charlotte, and the U.S. Marshals Service, Roy’s movements were tracked in real time. When the bus arrived in Durham on October 26, FBI agents from the Greensboro and Raleigh Resident Agencies intercepted the vehicle, arrested Roy without incident, and safely recovered the child.
The suspect now faces multiple federal charges, including Enticement of a Minor to Travel for Illicit Sexual Activity, Transportation of a Minor to Engage in Illicit Sexual Activity, and Interstate Travel with Intent to Engage in a Sexual Act with a Minor.
This remains an active and ongoing investigation, with federal and military authorities working to determine if there were other victims or prior instances of online predation. The FBI has publicly thanked the Hammond Police Department, the U.S. Marshals Service, and all participating law enforcement agencies for their swift coordination in securing the child’s recovery.
The case serves as a stark reminder of how quickly digital contact can escalate into physical abduction, and how critical interagency collaboration remains in closing the gap between online exploitation and real-world danger.

I saw this on the news. This guy needs a stiff prison sentence as we have no idea if this young girl will ever be the same. I pray that she heals physically, mentally, and spiritually from such a horrendous experience.
There is a bright side…she is alive. So many of these cases end in murder these days. I appreciate all that law enforcement did to track this young girl and save her life.
