A major drug trafficker with a documented history of violence, narcotics distribution, and criminal defiance has been sentenced to 40 years in federal prison — a ruling that closes one of the most destructive fentanyl pipelines operating across Pennsylvania and Ohio. The conviction marks the end of a multistate trafficking network responsible for massive quantities of fentanyl, fluorofentanyl, and cocaine, as well as the fatal overdose of a Western Pennsylvania resident.
Federal prosecutors confirmed that Eliot Gentry, 28, formerly of Youngstown, Ohio, was handed a 480-month federal sentence after pleading guilty to distributing fentanyl resulting in death and conspiring to distribute large quantities of fentanyl analogues and cocaine. He will also serve five years of supervised release after his prison term.
A MULTISTATE OPERATION BUILT ON FEAR, NARCOTICS, AND CONTROL
Court records show that Gentry ran a violent trafficking organization stretching across Mercer and Lawrence Counties in Pennsylvania and into Youngstown, Ohio. The operation ran through 2021 and 2022 and involved volumes of narcotics large enough to poison entire communities:
- 400+ grams of fentanyl
- 100+ grams of fluorofentanyl
- 5+ kilograms of cocaine
Gentry also trafficked the fentanyl that directly caused the January 23, 2022 death of a Western Pennsylvania resident — a turning point in the investigation and one of the key factors behind the severity of the sentence.
TRAPHOUSES, JUVENILES, FIREARMS, AND ENFORCED LOYALTY
Investigators uncovered that Gentry:
- Employed juveniles to run drug operations
- Set up multiple traphouses stocked with narcotics
- Used firearms to intimidate rivals and enforce payments
- Continued directing operations even during periods of incarceration
Even after being indicted and detained, Gentry continued criminal behavior. He repeatedly obtained contraband inside detention facilities — including narcotics and a weapon — demonstrating a sustained pattern of defiance and dangerousness.
A JOINT FEDERAL-STATE RESPONSE
The takedown required the combined force of:
- FBI
- Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General
- U.S. Postal Inspection Service
- ATF
- Lawrence County Drug Task Force
- Mercer County Drug Task Force
- Local police departments across New Castle, Sharon, and surrounding areas
- Pennsylvania State Police
Their coordinated effort shut down a trafficking structure that blended narcotics, intimidation, and the exploitation of minors.
Gentry’s case underscores the disproportionate damage caused by repeat offenders who treat incarceration as an inconvenience rather than a deterrent. This sentence makes clear that those fueling lethal fentanyl pipelines will face serious consequences — especially when their supply directly results in a loss of life.

It was a full operation built on exploitation, manipulation, and outright disregard for human life. And the fact that he involved kids makes it even more disgusting. Anyone who uses children to move poison through a community is operating at the lowest moral level possible.
I’m glad he’s finally off the street too, but I agree with you — it’s unsettling to think about how many others are still out there doing the same thing, just quieter and smarter. Another good news story! This sentence has teeth in it as long as it sticks. This guy refuses to give up his illegal acts even when in custody. I hope he can turn his life around with all of that time to think. I know God can turn his life around. I pray that he looks to the Lord on high to help him with his bondage.

You’re very welcome, Chris — and you’re right, this one is a true example of justice finally carrying weight. A sentence like this only means something if it holds, and in his case it needs to. He kept committing crimes even while in custody, even while under indictment, and that level of defiance shows exactly why the court had to act as firmly as it did.
Forty years is a long time, and like you said, that kind of time forces a person to face who they are and what they’ve done. If he chooses to turn his life around, it won’t be through the system — it will be through something higher, something that can reach a person even when every earthly door is closed. I pray he looks toward that as well, because nothing else is going to break the cycle he’s been trapped in.
