A Georgia man has been sentenced in federal court after a multi-year fraud conspiracy that targeted a former political candidate and four Louisiana residents through a web of fabricated services, false identities, and coordinated financial deception.
Chase Duncan Campbell, a resident of Cobb County, Georgia, was sentenced on December 4, 2025, by U.S. District Judge Barry W. Ashe in the Eastern District of Louisiana following his guilty plea to conspiracy to commit wire fraud. The sentence includes six months in federal prison, followed by eighteen months of home detention to be served as part of a three-year term of supervised release. The court also ordered Campbell to pay $446,302.23 in restitution to the victims and imposed a mandatory $100 special assessment.
Court records show that the conspiracy began as early as November 2020 and continued through at least May 2024, spanning multiple fraud schemes designed to exploit trust, political activity, and professional credibility. Investigators determined that Campbell and his co-conspirators systematically targeted individuals by presenting themselves as legitimate service providers while delivering nothing of substance in return.
One component of the conspiracy involved a former political candidate, identified in court filings as Candidate 1. Prosecutors stated that Campbell and others offered purported campaign-related services that were never delivered, using fabricated credentials and false representations to extract funds under the appearance of professional political consulting.
In parallel, the conspiracy expanded into real estate-related fraud. Victim 1 was defrauded of approximately $236,867 through sham real estate transactions and associated costs that existed only on paper. Victim 2 was induced to pay roughly $83,268.05 based on fraudulent claims involving real estate and title work that prosecutors say were entirely fictitious. These schemes relied on forged documentation, false assurances of progress, and staged explanations when victims sought clarification or proof.
A separate arm of the operation targeted Victims 3 and 4 through what prosecutors described as a fake legal defense scheme. In those cases, approximately $112,328.18 was obtained by falsely representing that funds were needed for legal services or defense-related expenses that were never rendered.
Across all aspects of the conspiracy, investigators documented a consistent operational pattern. Campbell and his associates used numerous aliases and invented professional roles, cycling through burner phone numbers for calls and text messages to avoid traceability. Fraudulent invoices were generated to create the appearance of legitimate billing, while interstate wire communications were used to move funds and sustain the deception. The schemes were designed to appear credible, compartmentalized, and adaptable, allowing the conspirators to pivot between targets and narratives without drawing immediate scrutiny.
Federal authorities described the case as an example of modern, low-overhead fraud—one that relies less on physical presence and more on impersonation, document fabrication, and digital communication to extract substantial sums over time. The duration of the conspiracy and the diversity of fraud methods were cited by prosecutors as aggravating factors in sentencing.
The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in coordination with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office. The case was prosecuted by the Public Integrity Unit of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Louisiana.
Campbell’s conviction closes one thread of the broader conspiracy. Federal authorities have not indicated whether additional prosecutions related to the scheme are pending, but court records reflect that the sentencing resolves Campbell’s criminal liability in the matter.

I’m glad they caught this guy and I hope the victims get some of their money back. His permanent record should always reflect this and I hope his supervised release time is long enough.
Thank you for this article.
You’re welcome, Chris — and you’re right. Accountability matters in cases like this, especially when financial harm stretches across multiple victims and years. Restitution is an important step, even when it can’t fully undo the damage. Supervised release and a permanent record help ensure there are lasting consequences beyond the prison term. Thank you, Chris. I hope you have a great day. 😎
You’re welcome, John, and thank you for your reply. Restitution is an important step. As you stated, even when it can’t fully undo the damage it is important. Maybe the criminal will appreciate the amount of damage done once they have to try and pay it back.
Thank you for your kind words, John, and I hope you have a great day as well! 🙂
