A Dallas man has been sentenced to federal prison following a violent robbery spree that targeted multiple convenience stores in North Texas, federal prosecutors announced, concluding a case that highlighted the risks posed to retail workers and the public during armed robberies.
Victor Heredia, 20, was sentenced on January 5, 2026, to 78 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to two counts of Hobbs Act robbery. The sentence was imposed by a federal district judge in Sherman, Texas, after the court reviewed evidence detailing a short but dangerous series of armed offenses carried out in November 2023.
According to court records, the first robbery occurred on November 6, 2023, at a 7-Eleven convenience store located on North Josey Lane in Carrollton. Investigators stated that Heredia entered the store armed with a firearm and, during the course of the robbery, discharged the weapon into the ceiling. Although no injuries were reported, authorities emphasized that firing a weapon inside a commercial space significantly escalated the risk to employees and customers present at the time.
The following day, Heredia carried out a second robbery at another 7-Eleven location on East Rosemead Parkway, also in Carrollton. In that incident, prosecutors said the robbery was committed at gunpoint, reinforcing concerns that the conduct represented a continuing threat rather than an isolated offense.
Federal authorities charged the case under the Hobbs Act, a statute commonly used in federal prosecutions involving robbery or extortion that affects interstate commerce. Convenience stores are frequently considered qualifying targets under the law due to their role in regional and national supply chains, allowing federal jurisdiction when violent crimes disrupt business operations.
Investigators from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Carrollton Police Department worked jointly to identify, arrest, and build the case against Heredia. Prosecutors stated that cooperation between federal and local agencies was critical in quickly addressing the robberies and preventing further incidents.
The case was prosecuted as part of a broader federal enforcement effort focused on violent crime reduction. Federal officials emphasized that armed robberies involving discharged firearms are treated as high-priority cases due to the potential for serious injury or loss of life, even when no one is physically harmed.
At sentencing, the court considered the use of a firearm and the repeated nature of the offenses as aggravating factors. The imposed prison term reflects federal sentencing guidelines that account for violence, weapon use, and the danger posed to the public.
Federal prosecutors reiterated that violent robberies of retail establishments often have lasting effects beyond immediate financial loss, including trauma to employees, increased security costs, and broader community concern. Officials stated that the sentence serves both as punishment for the offenses and as a deterrent against similar conduct.
The investigation and prosecution underscore continued law enforcement focus on addressing violent crime through coordinated federal and local action, particularly in cases where firearms are used in public settings.
