The FBI Omaha Field Office has recognized the Nebraska Farm Bureau with the FBI Director’s Community Leadership Award, citing the organization’s sustained efforts to strengthen agricultural security, community resilience, and collaboration between rural stakeholders and law enforcement.
The award was presented on December 9, 2025, by the special agent in charge of the Omaha Field Office and accepted on behalf of the Nebraska Farm Bureau by its first vice president. The recognition places the organization among a select group of national honorees chosen annually from each of the FBI’s 56 field offices for demonstrated leadership in crime prevention, education, and public safety.
Federal officials emphasized that the award reflects more than community outreach alone. Nebraska’s agricultural sector increasingly faces complex risks tied to cyber intrusions, criminal exploitation, foreign intelligence interest, and threats to food production and processing infrastructure. Law enforcement leaders described agriculture not only as an economic engine, but as a component of national security that requires proactive coordination between industry and government.
The Nebraska Farm Bureau was cited for its role in bringing farmers and ranchers together to address shared challenges and develop practical, security-focused solutions. Its advocacy efforts have focused on raising awareness of threats to agricultural operations while promoting preparedness across rural communities that often operate far from centralized resources.
Several internal programs were highlighted as part of the organization’s broader leadership pipeline. The Collegiate Farm Bureau has provided students with early exposure to leadership development, civic engagement, and career pathways within agriculture. The Nebraska Young Farmers and Ranchers Program has supported members between the ages of 18 and 35 by fostering peer networks and leadership skills at a formative stage. The organization’s Leadership Academy has further expanded this framework by preparing future leaders to advocate effectively for agriculture and represent grassroots interests at the state and national level.
Through its partnership with the Omaha Field Office, the Nebraska Farm Bureau has played a direct role in expanding information sharing and threat awareness across the agricultural sector. Officials noted that this collaboration has improved the bureau’s ability to identify and mitigate cyber risks, counterintelligence concerns, terrorism-related vulnerabilities, and criminal threats affecting farms, ranches, and food processing facilities.
One of the most significant joint efforts cited was the hosting of the FBI’s Agriculture Threats Symposium in 2024. The event brought together more than 400 agricultural stakeholders from 30 states, providing briefings on emerging security risks and practical guidance on working with law enforcement. Federal officials described the symposium as a force multiplier, extending threat awareness far beyond Nebraska’s borders.
Leaders on both sides emphasized that protecting agriculture requires long-term engagement rather than reactive enforcement. Rural industries often operate with limited visibility into evolving threat landscapes, making trusted partnerships essential for early warning and prevention. The Nebraska Farm Bureau’s role as a convening body has allowed security information to reach producers, processors, and community leaders who might otherwise remain disconnected from federal resources.
The FBI Director’s Community Leadership Award, established in 1990, is designed to recognize individuals and organizations that contribute meaningfully to public safety outside traditional enforcement roles. Officials stated that the Nebraska Farm Bureau’s selection reflects a growing emphasis on protecting critical infrastructure through education, preparedness, and cooperative defense.
Federal representatives noted that community partnerships like this have led to tangible outcomes, including improved cyber awareness among small and mid-sized operations, better reporting of suspicious activity, and stronger resilience across sectors considered vital to both local economies and national stability.
