Federal prosecutors in western Pennsylvania have filed charges against a Natrona Heights resident accused of unlawfully possessing firearms and ammunition despite a prior felony conviction, marking another enforcement action tied to broader efforts to reduce gun violence and repeat-offender risk in the region.
A federal grand jury in Pittsburgh returned a one-count indictment against Myles Daryl Johnson, 44, alleging that on or about December 11, 2025, he knowingly possessed firearms and ammunition while legally prohibited from doing so. Under federal law, individuals with felony convictions are barred from possessing firearms or ammunition, a restriction intended to limit access to weapons by those deemed to pose an elevated public safety risk.
According to charging documents, the alleged offense stems from an investigation conducted jointly by federal agents and local law enforcement in Allegheny County. While authorities have not publicly detailed the circumstances that led to the discovery of the firearms and ammunition, officials confirmed that the case was developed through coordinated investigative work between federal and municipal partners.
If convicted, Johnson faces a statutory maximum penalty of up to 15 years in federal prison, a fine of up to $250,000, or both. Any sentence imposed would ultimately be determined under federal sentencing guidelines, which take into account factors such as the nature of the offense and the defendant’s prior criminal history.
The prosecution is being handled by a federal assistant U.S. attorney assigned to the Western District of Pennsylvania. Investigators involved in the case emphasized that unlawful firearm possession by convicted felons remains a priority area for enforcement, particularly in jurisdictions where repeat violent offenses and gun-related incidents have had measurable community impact.
Officials noted that the case falls under the umbrella of a broader violent crime reduction strategy that emphasizes targeted enforcement against individuals prohibited from possessing firearms. These initiatives rely on coordination between federal agencies, local police departments, and prosecutors to identify and remove illegal weapons from circulation before they are used in further criminal activity.
Authorities also reiterated that an indictment represents an allegation, not a finding of guilt. As with all federal criminal cases, the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until the charges are proven beyond a reasonable doubt in court.

It is so important that this a current strategy. I’m thankful to those responsible for catching this guy who had firearms and ammunition while he’s had that right taken from him for previous bad behavior. I’m glad this is a priority.
