Three Sentenced in Multi-State ATM Heist Scheme That Targeted Banks Across the U.S.

Three men have been sentenced to federal prison for their roles in a multi-state ATM burglary and bank larceny scheme that caused more than $351,000 in damage and targeted financial institutions across several states.

Quinnaland Jerome Rhodes, 39, of Apalachicola, Florida; Imuel Wade Thompkins, 31, of Missouri City, Texas; and Derron Skinner, 34, of Houston, Texas, were sentenced in federal court in the Northern District of Florida following convictions for conspiracy to commit burglaries, bank burglary, and bank larceny.

According to sentencing records, Thompkins received a four-year federal prison sentence, Skinner was sentenced to three years, and Rhodes was sentenced to two years. Each defendant will also serve three years of supervised release following incarceration and was ordered to pay $351,284 in restitution for damages caused during the crime spree.

ATM Heists Using Stolen Trucks and Tow Chains

Federal investigators determined that the scheme involved a series of forceful ATM burglaries carried out in December 2023, specifically on December 10 and December 23, at bank locations in Port St. Joe and Callaway, Florida.

To execute the burglaries, the defendants used stolen Ford F-250 pickup trucks and heavy tow chains, attaching the chains to ATMs and ripping the machines from their housings. The method caused extensive structural damage to bank facilities in addition to the theft attempts.

Following the arrests of Thompkins and Rhodes, investigators uncovered evidence linking Skinner and Thompkins to additional ATM burglaries carried out using the same method at banks located in Oregon and Missouri, confirming the operation extended well beyond Florida and followed a consistent, repeatable criminal pattern.

Authorities described the crimes as well-organized, mobile property offenses that exploited vulnerabilities in standalone and exterior ATM installations. The coordinated nature of the burglaries, combined with interstate travel and stolen vehicles, elevated the case to federal jurisdiction.
