A Kansas City man has been sentenced in federal court to 15 years in prison after admitting he possessed thousands of files depicting the sexual abuse of children on multiple electronic devices.
Andrew Charles Doyal, 52, of Kansas City, Missouri, was sentenced by Chief United States District Judge Brian C. Wimes to 180 months in federal prison without parole. Following completion of the prison term, Doyal will serve lifetime supervised release, a condition frequently imposed in federal child exploitation cases due to the long-term monitoring requirements placed on offenders.
Doyal pleaded guilty on October 27, 2025, to possession of child sexual abuse material (CSAM), a federal offense involving the knowing possession of images or videos depicting the sexual exploitation of minors.
According to court documents, investigators discovered thousands of CSAM files stored on multiple electronic devices belonging to Doyal. The material included images depicting children as young as infants and toddlers, which federal sentencing guidelines classify among the most severe forms of exploitation due to the age of the victims involved.
At the time investigators identified the material, Doyal was already required to register as a sex offender stemming from a prior conviction. Federal law prohibits registered sex offenders from engaging in conduct involving the possession or distribution of exploitative material involving minors.
Federal prosecutors noted that digital forensic analysis of seized devices is a central component of child exploitation investigations. Law enforcement specialists routinely examine storage media, cloud accounts, and encrypted communications platforms to identify files, trace distribution networks, and determine whether offenders were involved in broader online exploitation communities.
Upon release from federal custody, Doyal will be required to register as a sex offender under both federal and state laws. Sex offender registration systems are designed to track individuals convicted of certain offenses involving minors and may impose restrictions on residency, employment, and internet usage.
The case was investigated by the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Maureen A. Brackett prosecuted the case.
The prosecution was brought under Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched by the U.S. Department of Justice in 2006 to combat the sexual exploitation of minors. The initiative coordinates federal, state, and local law enforcement resources to identify offenders, dismantle online exploitation networks, and locate victims depicted in abuse material.
Federal authorities continue to prioritize investigations involving child exploitation and the possession or distribution of CSAM due to the lasting harm inflicted on victims and the role that digital networks can play in expanding the reach of exploitative content.

“Federal authorities continue to prioritize investigations involving child exploitation and the possession or distribution of CSAM due to the lasting harm inflicted on victims and the role that digital networks can play in expanding the reach of exploitative content.”
I completely agree with the prioritization of these cases for the exact reasons explained above. This sentence seems correct and I particularly like that this man will serve lifetime supervised release when his prison time has been completed.
Thank you for this article.
You’re very welcome, Chris. I appreciate your thoughtful comment.
You’re absolutely right that cases involving child exploitation receive heightened investigative priority, largely because of the lasting harm inflicted on victims and the way digital networks can amplify the spread of that material far beyond the original crime.
Lifetime supervised release is often imposed in these cases because it allows authorities to continue monitoring individuals after incarceration, particularly when the offenses involve online activity or the potential for continued contact with digital networks. Courts frequently use that mechanism to reduce the risk of repeat offenses and to protect potential victims.
Thanks again, Chris. I’m glad the article was helpful, and I appreciate you taking the time to read and share your perspective. I hope you have a great night. 😎
You’re welcome, John, and thank you for this reply. I think that lifetime supervised release could very well reduce the risk of repeat offenses and protect potential victims.
Thanks again and I hope you have a great night as well! 🙂
