FBI Announces Reward of Up to $15,000 for Information in the 2017 Homicide of Yunique Marie Puckett

IMPERIAL, CALIFORNIA — Federal and local investigators are renewing efforts to solve the 2017 homicide of Yunique Marie Puckett, a case that remains unsolved nearly a decade after authorities discovered her body inside a burning residence in Imperial County. The Federal Bureau of Investigation has announced a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the identification, arrest, and conviction of those responsible for her death, with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) offering an additional $5,000, bringing the total possible reward to $15,000.

The investigation is being led by the FBI’s San Diego Field Office, specifically the Imperial County Resident Agency, working in coordination with the Imperial Police Department and the ATF Los Angeles Field Division. Authorities say the renewed public appeal reflects the continuing priority placed on resolving violent crimes that have remained open for years.

The case dates back to January 17, 2017, when emergency services responded to reports of a residential fire in Imperial, California, a city located in the southeastern region of the state near the U.S.–Mexico border. At approximately 5:00 a.m., firefighters from the Imperial County Fire Department arrived at the scene and worked to extinguish the blaze.

During the response, firefighters located the body of a deceased woman inside the residence. The victim was later identified as Yunique Marie Puckett, whose maiden name was Dorame.

An examination conducted by the Imperial County Sheriff’s Coroner determined that Puckett had sustained multiple gunshot wounds before the fire occurred. Investigators concluded the victim had been shot inside the residence, indicating that the blaze was likely set after the shooting in an attempt to conceal or destroy evidence connected to the killing.

The homicide investigation has since involved cooperation between multiple law enforcement agencies as investigators worked to identify potential suspects and reconstruct the circumstances surrounding the crime.

Officials involved in the case have emphasized that the passage of time does not diminish the importance of resolving the homicide or bringing those responsible before a court of law.

Federal investigators stated that violence of this nature remains a priority for law enforcement agencies working across jurisdictional boundaries.
