FBI COLUMBIA TEEN ACADEMY OPENS — SOUTH CAROLINA STUDENTS INVITED INTO FEDERAL OPERATIONS ENVIRONMENT FOR TWO-DAY IMMERSIVE PROGRAM

The FBI’s Columbia Field Office has opened applications for its annual Teen Academy, a controlled-access program designed to introduce high school students to federal law enforcement operations through direct exposure to investigative disciplines, operational units, and national security frameworks. The 2026 session is scheduled for June 23–24, running from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at FBI Columbia headquarters in Lexington, South Carolina.

The program is structured as an operational immersion, not a general overview. Participants are placed inside a simulated exposure environment where federal investigative functions are broken down into real-world applications. Students will receive direct briefings and demonstrations covering counterterrorism, cybercrime investigations, public corruption enforcement, violent crime response, evidence recovery operations, and SWAT tactical deployment. The intent is to provide a working understanding of how federal cases are built, how threats are identified, and how field offices execute coordinated responses across jurisdictions.

The Academy functions as both an educational pipeline and an early-stage recruitment exposure tool. Students are introduced to the operational scope of the Bureau, including the integration of intelligence gathering, digital forensics, and tactical enforcement. These sessions are designed to show how investigations evolve from initial leads into prosecutable cases, emphasizing the role of interagency coordination and evidence handling in federal prosecutions.

Eligibility requirements establish a controlled applicant pool:

• Must be a United States citizen
• Must reside in South Carolina
• Must be a rising high school sophomore, junior, or senior (ages 15–18)
• Must be enrolled in an accredited high school or recognized homeschool program
• Must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.8

Applicants are required to submit a formal application accompanied by an essay outlining their interest in federal law enforcement and how participation in the Academy aligns with their long-term objectives. The essay component functions as a screening mechanism, allowing evaluators to assess intent, maturity, and alignment with the program’s objectives.

Applications are due by 5:00 p.m. on March 23, with late submissions excluded from consideration. Selected candidates will receive notification on April 3, indicating acceptance into the program.

The FBI Teen Academy program reflects a broader strategy to engage younger demographics with federal law enforcement frameworks before college-level recruitment cycles. By introducing operational concepts early, the program builds awareness of investigative careers while reinforcing the scope of federal jurisdiction across cyber, criminal, and national security domains.
