GREENVILLE, SOUTH CAROLINA — A federal grand jury in Greenville has returned a 10-count indictment charging three Upstate South Carolina residents in connection with an alleged interstate kidnapping and robbery scheme that authorities say resulted in the fatal shooting of a victim during a planned robbery operation spanning South Carolina and North Carolina.
Federal prosecutors identified the defendants as Elisa Marie Rosario, 33, and Jeremy Todd Lark, also known as “Jeremy Abdul Wakil Jones,” 42, both of Roebuck, South Carolina, along with Kezayvian Lee Campbell, 19, of Greenville.
According to the indictment, the defendants are charged with robbery affecting interstate commerce, conspiracy to commit robbery affecting interstate commerce, kidnapping resulting in death, conspiracy to commit kidnapping resulting in death, use of a firearm during a crime of violence causing death, obstruction of justice, interstate transportation of a stolen vehicle, destruction of a vehicle by fire to prevent law enforcement seizure, and providing false statements to federal investigators.
Federal authorities stated the alleged conspiracy began on or about June 16, 2025, involving a coordinated scheme targeting a victim identified in court records as M.B.G.
According to prosecutors, investigators believe the defendants planned to rob and kidnap the victim of money, jewelry, a cellphone, and a rented 2025 Hyundai Genesis connected to interstate commercial activity through Enterprise rental services.
Court documents allege the defendants lured the victim from South Carolina to Harrah’s Casino in Cherokee, North Carolina under the pretense of a date involving Rosario.
Federal prosecutors stated the group allegedly prepared for the operation by obtaining firearms, masks, latex gloves, and other materials investigators believe were intended for use during the robbery and kidnapping.
According to the indictment, events escalated during the early morning hours of June 17 after the victim arrived at the casino.
Authorities stated Rosario allegedly persuaded the victim to leave the casino property before the pair briefly stopped at a nearby convenience store.
Federal investigators allege Rosario then drove the victim to another location where Campbell exited a separate vehicle driven by Lark and entered the victim’s rented Hyundai Genesis.
According to prosecutors, the defendants then transported the victim approximately 12 miles into Sylva, North Carolina while traveling in two separate vehicles.
Court filings state the victim was robbed during the operation and later shot with a firearm, resulting in death.
Federal authorities additionally allege the defendants discarded the victim’s belongings while traveling between locations in an apparent effort to conceal evidence tied to the crime.
Later that evening, authorities located the victim’s body alongside the burned rental vehicle in a wooded area near the intersection of Woodburn Road and Pinecrest Road in Spartanburg County.
Investigators further stated jewelry belonging to the victim was later recovered at the defendants’ residence in Roebuck.
United States Attorney Bryan Stirling for the District of South Carolina stated the allegations describe a calculated interstate criminal operation ending in fatal violence.
“The alleged actions of these defendants show a dark and devious scheme that crossed state lines and ultimately resulted in death,” Stirling stated. “Our thoughts are with the victim’s loved ones as we take this step toward justice.”
FBI Columbia Special Agent in Charge Kevin Moore stated the investigation relied heavily on forensic analysis, coordinated investigative work, and interagency cooperation.
“This alleged conduct was callous and showed a deliberate disregard for human life,” Moore stated. “This multi-count indictment is the result of a thorough, data-driven, and forensically supported investigation conducted jointly by the FBI and the Spartanburg Police Department.”
Major Art Littlejohn of the Spartanburg Police Department stated the investigation reflected the importance of coordinated law enforcement operations involving local, state, and federal agencies working complex violent crime cases across jurisdictions.
Federal authorities stated each defendant currently faces potential penalties including life imprisonment if convicted on the charges outlined in the indictment.
The defendants remain detained pending detention hearings before United States Magistrate Judge Kevin F. McDonald.
The investigation was conducted by the FBI Columbia Field Office, Spartanburg Police Department, and Spartanburg Fire Department.
Assistant United States Attorney Leesa Washington is prosecuting the case.
Federal authorities emphasized that all charges remain allegations and that the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in federal court.

My first cousin was murdered in Myrtle Beach SC a few years ago after the 4th of July holiday (and his birthday). He was lured also. South Carolina SUCKS!! I would never go there. The court system had video of his killer and shooting and let that ANIMAL walk the streets on bond ($8500 bond) for THREE YEARS before taking him to trial where he took a plea deal and was then carted off to prison.
I hope the justice system puts these monsters away, so the victims family gets justice and peace.
Thank you very much for sharing that, Sheila, and I’m truly sorry your family had to go through something so painful.
Losing someone to violence is devastating on its own, but situations where families feel the justice process moved too slowly or failed to reflect the seriousness of the crime can leave lasting anger and emotional scars for years afterward. I can understand why this case would hit especially hard for you after what happened to your cousin.
Hopefully, like you said, the victim’s family in this case is able to receive the justice, answers, and sense of peace they deserve as the case moves forward through the court system.
Thank you again for reading and for sharing something so personal, Sheila. I truly hope you and your family are doing okay today because you and your family have been through enough. God bless you and yours always. 🙏 😎
If these three are the ones responsible for these crimes, law enforcement has done an excellent job tracking them down. I hope that a fair trial is held and that if guilty of these tragic events the proper sentence(s) will be handed down. In any case, I hope there is a resolution to these events and that exactly what happened is discovered and that it is dealt with accordingly.
Thank you for your latest news coverage, John. I hope you have a great night!
You’re very welcome, Chris.
I agree. If the allegations are true, investigators appear to have put together a very extensive case involving forensic evidence, interstate movements, recovered property, and coordination between multiple law enforcement agencies. Cases like this are incredibly disturbing because of the level of alleged planning involved and the tragic outcome that followed.
Like you said, hopefully the victim’s family is able to get the answers and resolution they deserve as the case moves forward through the court system.
Thank you again for reading, Chris. I greatly appreciate your thoughtful perspective, and I hope you have a great night as well, and a great day tomorrow. 😎
