ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The FBI Albuquerque Field Office is requesting assistance from the public in locating Raymond Lawrence Gonzales, a fugitive wanted on federal drug trafficking charges connected to a major fentanyl seizure in New Mexico.
According to federal authorities, Gonzales is wanted for his alleged involvement in a narcotics trafficking operation involving approximately 72 kilograms of fentanyl pills recovered during a traffic stop conducted by local law enforcement on April 17, 2024.
Investigators stated the vehicle driven by Gonzales had traveled from Arizona into Albuquerque, New Mexico, before law enforcement officers conducted the stop that ultimately led to the seizure.
Federal authorities reported the vehicle contained approximately 72 kilograms of fentanyl pills, a quantity capable of distributing hundreds of thousands of potentially lethal doses throughout communities.
Following the investigation, a federal arrest warrant was issued for Gonzales on June 25, 2024, by the United States District Court for the District of New Mexico after he was charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute 400 Grams and More of Fentanyl.
Federal authorities continue warning that fentanyl remains one of the most dangerous narcotics impacting communities across the United States due to its extreme potency and widespread presence within illicit drug trafficking networks.
According to the Drug Enforcement Administration, fentanyl trafficking organizations frequently transport large quantities of counterfeit pills and powdered fentanyl across state lines through sophisticated distribution networks that often span multiple jurisdictions and, in some cases, international borders.
The FBI stated Gonzales has known ties to Mazatlán and Ciudad Juárez, Mexico. Investigators are asking anyone with information regarding his whereabouts to immediately contact law enforcement.
Federal authorities continue emphasizing that fugitives involved in large-scale narcotics trafficking investigations may attempt to relocate, utilize aliases, or rely on criminal associates to evade capture for extended periods.
The FBI is urging members of the public not to approach Gonzales if located and instead contact law enforcement authorities directly.
Anyone with information regarding Raymond Lawrence Gonzales is encouraged to contact the FBI Albuquerque Field Office at 505-889-1300, call 1-800-CALL-FBI, submit information through the FBI’s online tip portal, or contact the nearest United States Embassy or Consulate.
The charge contained in the federal complaint is an allegation. Gonzales is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law beyond a reasonable doubt.

I absolutely agree. The amount of fentanyl involved in this case was significant, and removing quantities like that from circulation can potentially save lives and prevent further harm within communities.
