MMS STRATEGIES HONORED WITH FBI DIRECTOR’S COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP AWARD FOR SACRAMENTO PARTNERSHIP

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The FBI Sacramento Field Office has honored MMS Strategies LLC with its local FBI Director’s Community Leadership Award for helping strengthen communication between federal law enforcement, businesses, and community leaders across the region.

Michelle Smira, founder and chief executive officer of the Sacramento-based consulting firm, accepted the award on behalf of MMS Strategies during the July 28 recognition.

The field office selected the company for its collaborative support of the FBI’s mission to protect the American people and uphold the Constitution. Its work has helped federal personnel engage regional leaders, understand local public-safety concerns, and prepare for challenges associated with the area’s continued development.

“MMS Strategies recognizes that we are all on the same team, working toward the same goals: Protect the American people and uphold the Constitution of the United States,” Acting Special Agent in Charge Brian Tosh said. “Their support strengthens our ability to safeguard communities, enhance resilience, and ensure that our efforts reflect the needs and priorities of the region.”

MMS Strategies provides consulting services intended to help clients develop strategy, communicate effectively, identify opportunities, and resolve regional challenges. The firm’s knowledge of the Sacramento area became a foundation for its work with the FBI.

The partnership developed after representatives from MMS Strategies participated in the FBI Citizens Academy at the Sacramento Field Office headquarters.

The Citizens Academy experience provided the company with a closer understanding of the FBI’s responsibilities and the value of sustained communication between law enforcement and the communities it serves. MMS Strategies then identified opportunities to improve public-safety discussions, strengthen mutual understanding, and support community resilience.

Through the resulting partnership, the FBI has been able to engage with business and community leaders who possess firsthand knowledge of local conditions. Those relationships assist the field office in understanding regional concerns, recognizing community challenges, identifying potential threats, and preparing for significant growth and development.

The cooperation also creates a clearer path for community leaders to communicate their concerns directly to federal personnel. That exchange can help law enforcement understand how public-safety issues affect different organizations, neighborhoods, and industries across a large and diverse area.

The FBI Director’s Community Leadership Award was established in 1990 to recognize individuals and organizations working to improve their communities through education and the prevention of crime and violence.

Each of the FBI’s 56 field offices selects one person or organization for the award annually. The selections recognize local achievements while emphasizing the role community partnerships play in preventing violence, assisting victims, and improving public safety.

Recipients recognized across the country this year have supported a broad range of efforts. Their work includes building stronger relationships between law-enforcement agencies and the communities they serve, combating human trafficking, providing resources to victims, and supporting programs for young people.

MMS Strategies was selected for its contributions within the Sacramento Field Office’s jurisdiction, which covers 34 of California’s 58 counties. The size of that territory requires cooperation with communities that face different economic, geographic, and public-safety conditions.

The Sacramento Field Office’s community-outreach program supports the FBI’s investigative mission by building relationships that can help address interconnected problems involving crime, illegal drugs, gangs, terrorism, and violence.

Those outreach efforts connect community service, prevention, and law enforcement. FBI employees also participate in community-related volunteer work intended to support local organizations and strengthen relationships beyond active investigations.

The recognition of MMS Strategies reflects the value of a partnership that gives federal personnel greater access to regional knowledge while giving business and community leaders a stronger understanding of the FBI’s mission.

The award honors the firm’s role in creating productive communication, supporting informed public-safety planning, and helping the Sacramento Field Office remain connected to the needs and priorities of the communities within its jurisdiction.
