D.C. MAN PLEADS GUILTY IN ARMED CARJACKING SPREE ACROSS DISTRICT, MARYLAND AND VIRGINIA

WASHINGTON, D.C. — August 17, 2026 — A District of Columbia man has pleaded guilty to four federal charges connected to a series of armed carjackings and robberies committed across Washington, Maryland, and Virginia between August and October 2024.

Taurian Anderson, 21, entered the guilty plea before U.S. District Judge Beryl A. Howell.

Anderson pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit carjacking, one count of carjacking and aiding and abetting, and two counts of using a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence.

Judge Howell scheduled sentencing for January 29, 2027. The final sentence will be determined by the federal court.

Court documents connected Anderson and his co-conspirators to seven encounters involving completed or attempted carjackings and armed robberies. The incidents began on August 9, 2024, and continued through Anderson’s arrest on October 4, 2024.

At approximately 12:11 a.m. on August 9, Anderson approached a DoorDash delivery driver in the 4200 block of East Capitol Street NE. He brandished a handgun and ordered the driver out of a Hyundai Elantra before taking the vehicle.

Approximately three hours later, Anderson and a co-conspirator approached a Toyota Corolla in the 4200 block of Dupont Terrace SE. They ordered the driver out of the vehicle at gunpoint and instructed the driver to leave all personal belongings behind. The co-conspirator entered the Toyota and drove away.

The conspiracy expanded into Maryland on September 7, 2024. At approximately 1:26 a.m., Anderson and a co-conspirator traveled from the District to Silver Spring in a stolen vehicle.

A driver was parking a Honda Civic in the 8000 block of Eastern Avenue when Anderson and his co-conspirator blocked the vehicle and prevented it from moving. After the driver exited the Civic, one of the conspirators pointed a firearm and ordered the driver to the ground.

The conspirators took the victim’s iPhone, wallet, vehicle keys, and house keys. The victim, a professional musician, asked to retrieve a saxophone from the Civic, but the request was refused.

When the victim attempted to recover the instrument, one of the conspirators began driving away. The moving vehicle dragged the victim approximately five feet before the victim released the saxophone. The conspirators then fled in the Civic and returned to the District.

At approximately 2:40 a.m., Anderson and his co-conspirator arrived in the 6700 block of New Hampshire Avenue in Hyattsville, Maryland, using the Honda Civic taken in Silver Spring.

They approached a driver who had just parked a Toyota Prius. One conspirator pointed a firearm at the driver while the other punched the driver twice.

The victim surrendered an iPhone, two laptop computers, credit cards, house keys, and the keys to the Prius. The conspirators drove the Prius back to Washington.

Anderson later exchanged text messages with an unidentified person while attempting to sell the Prius and two additional vehicles.

The spree continued in Virginia during the early morning hours of October 4, 2024. At approximately 12:15 a.m., Anderson and his co-conspirators arrived in the 3000 block of South Jefferson Street in Falls Church.

One conspirator approached an occupied Dodge Charger and attempted to open the locked driver’s door. The conspirator then tapped a firearm against the window. The driver placed the vehicle into drive, accelerated, and escaped before the carjacking could be completed.

Approximately 15 minutes later, Anderson and his co-conspirators traveled to the 5000 block of Columbia Pike in Falls Church, where four people were standing outside a credit union.

Anderson and another armed conspirator held the group at gunpoint and ordered all four people to lie on the ground and empty their pockets. The conspirators took the victims’ phones and the keys to a Toyota Prius before driving the stolen vehicle back to Washington.

At approximately 1:20 a.m., Anderson and a co-conspirator approached another driver at a BP gas station in the 5000 block of Nannie Helen Burroughs Avenue NE.

Anderson pointed a firearm at the driver’s face and demanded the keys to an Infiniti. Anderson drove away in the Infiniti while the co-conspirator drove away in a nearby Mercedes-Benz in the same direction.

At approximately 4:03 p.m. that day, a Metropolitan Police Department helicopter located the stolen Infiniti moving recklessly through traffic.

The Infiniti collided with another vehicle near Independence Avenue SE and East Capitol Street SE but continued away from the collision. Heavy traffic near RFK Stadium eventually stopped the vehicle, causing Anderson and his co-conspirator to abandon it.

U.S. Capitol Police officers apprehended the co-conspirator in a nearby recreational field. Anderson remained armed and ran beneath the Whitney Young Memorial Bridge before entering the Anacostia River and placing his handgun against his head.

Members of the Metropolitan Police Department’s Emergency Response Team and police negotiators responded. At approximately 6:42 p.m., Anderson dropped the firearm into the river, surrendered, and was arrested.

U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro announced the guilty plea.

The FBI’s Washington Field Office and the Metropolitan Police Department’s Carjacking Taskforce investigated the case. The U.S. Capitol Police, Prince George’s County Police Department, Montgomery County Police Department, and Fairfax County Police Department provided assistance.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Benjamin Helfand is prosecuting the case.
