FBI OFFERS $25,000 REWARD IN SEARCH FOR ARMED SUSPECT IN ROUTE 66 TRAVEL CENTER ATTEMPTED ROBBERY

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The FBI Albuquerque Field Office and Laguna Police Department are asking for the public’s help identifying an armed suspect accused of attempting to rob the Route 66 Travel Center near Interstate 40 within the boundaries of the Pueblo of Laguna Indian Reservation.

The attempted robbery occurred on August 7, 2025, at the Route 66 Travel Center near Exit 140 off Interstate 40 in New Mexico.

According to the FBI, the unidentified man entered the travel center and held a security guard at gunpoint.

The suspect demanded to know where the cashier cage was located. After being told the business did not have one, he left the travel center without completing the robbery.

Investigators said the man fled the area in a four-door vehicle of unknown make and model.

The FBI described the suspect as wearing a mask during the attempted robbery. Investigators also noted that he had a tattoo of an unknown design on his right hand, a physical characteristic that could help identify him.

More than a year after the incident, federal investigators are continuing efforts to determine who carried out the armed robbery attempt.

The FBI is now offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the identification, arrest, and conviction of the individual or individuals involved.

The location of the crime is significant because the Route 66 Travel Center sits within the boundaries of the Pueblo of Laguna Indian Reservation, bringing the investigation into a jurisdictional environment where tribal, local, and federal law enforcement agencies may work together depending on the offense, the people involved, and the applicable federal statutes.

The FBI Albuquerque Field Office is working with the Laguna Police Department on the investigation.

Authorities have not publicly identified a suspect, released a vehicle description beyond the fact that it was a four-door vehicle, or disclosed whether investigators believe the man acted alone.

The FBI has also not publicly released additional details regarding the firearm used during the attempted robbery, the suspect’s direction of travel, or whether surveillance footage captured additional identifying information.

The case remains open, and investigators are relying on the public for information that could help establish the suspect’s identity.

Members of the public should not attempt to confront anyone they believe may be connected to the case and should instead provide information directly to law enforcement.
