FLORIDA MAN ARRESTED ON FEDERAL CYBERSTALKING CHARGE INVOLVING SARATOGA COUNTY VICTIMS

ALBANY, N.Y. — A Florida man has been arrested on a federal cyberstalking charge after investigators alleged that he sent threatening and menacing communications to several residents of Saratoga County, New York.

Anthony Gagnon, 23, of New Smyrna Beach, Florida, was arrested on August 4, 2026, following an investigation involving FBI personnel in New York and Florida.

According to the federal criminal complaint, Gagnon allegedly used social media platforms and text messages to send threatening communications to multiple victims in the Capital Region.

The communications allegedly included repeated references to one victim being kidnapped.

Federal authorities also allege that messages sent by Gagnon contained information identifying where the victim lived and included other personal details.

The combination of alleged threats and location-specific information became part of the federal cyberstalking investigation.

First Assistant U.S. Attorney John A. Sarcone III said individuals who use electronic communications to issue violent threats can still be investigated, identified, and arrested despite operating through online platforms.

Craig L. Tremaroli, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Albany Field Office, said investigators coordinated through the FBI Albany Joint Terrorism Task Force and with personnel from the FBI Jacksonville Field Office’s Daytona Beach Resident Agency.

According to Tremaroli, that coordination allowed investigators to identify Gagnon, locate him in Florida, and take him into custody.

Gagnon made his initial appearance in federal court in Orlando, Florida, on August 4, 2026.

He was subsequently released on conditions while the federal case proceeds.

The cyberstalking charge carries a maximum potential sentence of five years in federal prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and up to three years of supervised release if Gagnon is convicted.

Any sentence would be determined by a federal judge after consideration of the applicable federal statute, U.S. Sentencing Guidelines, and other statutory factors.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is investigating the case.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Joshua R. Rosenthal is prosecuting the case for the Northern District of New York.

The case remains at the criminal complaint stage. The allegations against Gagnon have not been proven in court, and he is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
