NEW CASTLE FELON SENTENCED TO MORE THAN 17 YEARS FOR FENTANYL, HEROIN, AND COCAINE TRAFFICKING WHILE ON FEDERAL SUPERVISION

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania — September 17, 2026 — A New Castle man with multiple federal drug trafficking convictions has been sentenced to more than 17 and a half years in federal prison after being convicted of trafficking fentanyl, heroin, and cocaine while already serving a term of federal supervised release.

Melvin Dorsey-Pace, 33, was sentenced to 212 months in federal prison, followed by six years of supervised release, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Pennsylvania. Chief United States District Judge Cathy Bissoon imposed the sentence.

The latest case stems from conduct on February 12, 2025, when Dorsey-Pace possessed with intent to distribute a mixture containing fentanyl and heroin, along with a separate mixture containing fentanyl, heroin, and cocaine.

The sentence is significant not only because of the drugs involved, but because the offense occurred while Dorsey-Pace was already under federal supervision following an earlier drug trafficking conviction. According to prosecutors, the 2025 offense became his third federal drug trafficking conviction within a 10-year period.

That second federal drug case was itself committed while Dorsey-Pace was under supervision, creating a repeated pattern of new criminal conduct occurring after prior federal convictions and releases. Prosecutors said he was released from prison again in 2024 before committing the February 2025 offense that produced the current 212-month sentence.

His criminal history extends beyond federal narcotics convictions. According to information presented to the court, Dorsey-Pace had previously served a Pennsylvania state prison sentence for a drive-by shooting and was on state parole when he engaged in the conduct that resulted in his first federal drug trafficking conviction.

The FBI and the Lawrence County Drug Task Force conducted the investigation that led to the latest prosecution. United States Attorney Troy Rivetti credited both agencies for their work in developing the case against Dorsey-Pace. Assistant United States Attorney Craig W. Haller prosecuted the case on behalf of the federal government.

The FBI’s role in the investigation is also consistent with the Bureau’s participation in multi-agency drug enforcement operations throughout Western Pennsylvania.

Dorsey-Pace’s 212-month sentence amounts to approximately 17 years and eight months in federal prison before the six-year term of supervised release begins. The sentence marks the third time in roughly a decade that he has been convicted in federal court for drug trafficking conduct, with two of those offenses committed while he was already under federal supervision.

The progression of the cases shows repeated involvement in drug trafficking despite prior incarceration, federal supervision, and state parole. The latest offense involved fentanyl, heroin, and cocaine and resulted in a 212-month federal prison sentence.
