JAPAN AIRLINES SAYS AMADEUS BREACH EXPOSED DATA OF APPROXIMATELY 92,000 CUSTOMERS

TOKYO, JAPAN — Japan Airlines and Japan Transocean Air disclosed that reservation information belonging to approximately 92,000 customers showed evidence of external access following unauthorized access to systems operated by Amadeus IT Group, the provider of the airlines’ passenger service system used for reservations, ticketing, and check-in operations.

Japan Airlines said it was notified by Amadeus on October 23, 2026, that investigators had identified evidence showing portions of customer reservation data had been accessed externally through unauthorized access to the provider’s systems.

Approximately 90,000 customers had reservation information exposed, including reservation codes, names, flight dates, flight sectors, and classes of service.

For approximately 2,000 additional customers, the accessed information included those reservation details along with email addresses, phone numbers, passport numbers, nationalities, frequent-flyer numbers, airline and flight information, ticket numbers, seat numbers, and other information.

Japan Airlines said credit card numbers and passwords were not compromised. The airline also said there is currently no evidence that the affected customer information has been misused.

The unauthorized access identified in the reservation records covered a period from August 10, 2023, through September 23, 2026.

Amadeus has completed security measures addressing the incident, according to Japan Airlines. The company said the breach did not affect flight operations.

Japan Airlines said affected customers will be contacted individually and warned them to remain alert for phishing emails, fraudulent phone calls, and websites impersonating the JAL Group.

The disclosure comes as Japan faces heightened concern over a series of significant cyber incidents affecting companies and organizations across the country.

On October 26, Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi convened Japan’s first ministerial meeting dedicated to cybersecurity and directed government agencies to accelerate measures aimed at protecting businesses, government systems, and the public.

The Japanese government said recent cyberattacks have resulted in large-scale information leaks and raised concerns about additional harm caused through the misuse of stolen information. Officials were directed to strengthen assistance for affected organizations, expand cybersecurity support for small and medium-sized businesses, improve vulnerability assessments, and develop broader monitoring capabilities across supply chains.

The Japanese government has directed ministers to prepare an emergency cybersecurity measures package by approximately the end of the following week, as authorities accelerate their response to cyberattacks affecting businesses, government systems, and other organizations.
