PENSACOLA, FLORIDA — Trenton Demarquis Jenkins, 21, of Pensacola, has been indicted on three federal firearms charges involving possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon, possession of a machine gun, and possession of an unregistered firearm. The indictment was announced October 30, 2026, by John P. Heekin, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Florida.
Jenkins appeared for arraignment before U.S. Magistrate Judge Hope T. Cannon at the federal courthouse in Pensacola. His trial is scheduled for November 16, 2026, at 8:30 a.m. before U.S. District Judge T. Kent Wetherell II.
The charges involve separate federal restrictions governing firearm possession. Federal law generally prohibits individuals convicted of crimes punishable by more than one year of imprisonment from possessing firearms or ammunition, subject to statutory exceptions. Machine guns are subject to additional federal restrictions, while certain firearms covered by the National Firearms Act must be registered in accordance with federal requirements.
If convicted, Jenkins faces a maximum of 15 years in federal prison, three years of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine for possessing a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon. The machine gun charge carries a maximum of 10 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine. The unregistered firearm charge carries a maximum of 10 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a $10,000 fine. Any sentence would be determined by the court under applicable federal law.
The investigation is being conducted by the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Assistant United States Attorney Brooke D. Lindsay is prosecuting the case. Federal authorities have not publicly detailed the circumstances surrounding the alleged firearm possession or identified the specific weapon configuration involved.
The prosecution falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a nationwide Department of Justice initiative coordinating federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement efforts against violent crime. Operating through the nation’s 94 federal judicial districts, the program focuses on coordinated investigations, firearm-related prosecutions, and local public safety priorities.
Jenkins has been indicted but has not been convicted of the charges. He is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in federal court.
