ATF HOUSTON OPERATION LEADS TO EIGHT FEDERAL INDICTMENTS AND MULTIPLE ARRESTS ACROSS EAST TEXAS

HOUSTON, TEXAS — A federal investigation originating from a June 2022 burglary at Lakes Area Pawn Shop in Jasper, Texas, has resulted in eight federal indictments and a coordinated law enforcement operation across four East Texas counties. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Houston Field Division led the investigation, working alongside federal, state, and local agencies to identify individuals suspected of involvement in criminal activity connected to the case.

The enforcement operation involved the execution of arrest warrants in Jasper, Tyler, Angelina, and Galveston counties. According to ATF Houston, officers executed seven warrants during the coordinated action, while an eighth defendant was already incarcerated on unrelated charges. The operation brought together investigators and enforcement personnel from multiple jurisdictions to carry out the arrests.

ATF Houston Special Agent in Charge Michael Weddel credited the coordinated efforts of participating agencies, emphasizing the importance of federal, state, and local cooperation in investigating firearms-related offenses. Weddel stated that investigators worked to identify those responsible and bring them before the federal justice system, describing the operation as part of ATF’s commitment to protecting East Texas communities from violent crime and illegal firearms trafficking.

The operation involved the ATF Houston Field Division, Texas Department of Public Safety Criminal Investigations Division, Texas DPS, Jasper Police Department, U.S. Marshals Service, Angelina County Sheriff’s Office, Lufkin Police Department, Homeland Security Investigations Beaumont, FBI, Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force, and Jasper County Sheriff’s Office. These agencies contributed investigative resources, personnel, and enforcement support to the coordinated operation.

ATF Houston has not disclosed the names of the eight defendants, the specific charges contained in the indictments, or the number of firearms associated with the original burglary in the announcement. The agency also did not identify whether additional suspects remain under investigation or provide further details about the circumstances surrounding the alleged offenses.
