In the shadows where the echoes sleep,
Where whispers of the past softly creep,
There lies a place where time does fade,
A realm of memories we’ve made.
Through the corridors of thought we roam,
Seeking shelter in the mind’s old home,
Yet every door is locked and sealed,
With secrets only dreams reveal.
Do you recall the days gone by,
Or are they just a fleeting sigh?
A wisp of smoke that curls and fades,
Lost in the mist of mind’s arcades.
The faces that we once did know,
Now blurred like prints upon the snow,
Their voices whisper in the dark,
A flicker, then a dying spark.
We chase these shadows, try to bind
The fleeting phantoms of the mind,
But they elude, they twist, they turn,
A dance of fire that will not burn.
Yet in the chase, we find a thread,
A silver line to all we’ve said,
It pulls us back, it draws us near,
To places we both love and fear.
For in each thought, there lies a truth,
A buried gem from distant youth,
And though we try to set it free,
It slips away so easily.
But some remain, they dig in deep,
They haunt our hearts, disturb our sleep,
And in the quiet of the night,
They rise again, demanding light.
These are the memories that stay,
That never leave, that never sway,
They pull us in, they hold us tight,
They draw us back into the night.
Do you remember when we laughed?
Or is it just a broken craft?
A ship that sails on seas of mist,
A ghostly dream we can’t resist.
We write, we read, we speak, we share,
In hopes that others might compare,
Their own lost thoughts, their own dark past,
In hopes that memories might last.
But memory’s a fickle friend,
It starts, it stops, it bends, it ends,
And though we try to grasp it tight,
It slips away into the night.
Yet still, we write, we still pursue,
The echoes of what once we knew,
For in the chase, we find our soul,
In every crack, in every hole.
So read these lines and hold them near,
Let them echo in your ear,
For though the memory fades away,
The words remain, the thoughts will stay.
In this enigma, we are lost,
In this abyss, we pay the cost,
But through the darkness, light will seep,
And in that light, our souls will keep.

Poignant.
Thank you very much, Sheila! I’m glad it resonated with you. 😎
