I speak, yet silence greets my call,
A shadow cast, unseen by all.
Words I craft with care and might,
Fall into the endless night.
The work I do, the sweat I shed,
For thoughts to hang on fragile thread,
To weave a truth so bold, so clear,
Yet none will pause, none draw near.
Are we so lost in fleeting trends?
In scrolling screens, where focus bends?
Where minds no longer linger long,
On truth or art, or even song?
The likes, the clicks, they mean so little,
A moment’s glance, the briefest spittle.
And yet we bleed, we strive, we try,
To be heard beneath a crowded sky.
I wonder, does the fault lie there?
Or deep within the brain’s despair?
Distracted minds, they crave the new,
While depth and thought slip out of view.
The dopamine, that subtle trick,
Draws them in, and keeps them quick.
No time for pause, no time to feel,
No time for truth, just what’s ideal.
But here I stand, my voice still loud,
Though lost within a thoughtless crowd.
I push and pull, my heart on sleeve,
While they retreat, while they deceive.
Is it fear that blinds their eyes?
Or something deeper in disguise?
A shield they wear, to block the pain,
Of truths too real for fragile brains.
But still I write, I will not cease,
For in my words, I find my peace.
And one day, when the echoes clear,
Perhaps a heart will learn to hear.
Let them sleep, let them ignore,
For I’ll keep knocking on that door.
A mind awakes, a soul to find,
That yearns for more than just the blind.
And when they come, when they return,
To seek the light, for which they burn,
They’ll find these words, still standing tall—
A monument, despite the fall.

This is so good, John. I hear you!
Thank you very much, Mary! Have a great night. 😎
There’s so much fleeting out there nowadays. I wonder sometimes if people even read stuff. I saw your article about how many young people don’t read nowadays. That was always a big thing for me – hoping to bring forth the enjoyment of reading, not just for work but for pleasure. It’s hard in this world where 7 seconds videos are “the thing”
Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment, Laura! I completely relate to that concern. It’s tough when short, fleeting content dominates, and true engagement seems to be lost. I agree; I think it’s so important to remind people about the joy of reading, not just for information, but for the pleasure of immersing ourselves in deeper stories and ideas. Hopefully, people get it before it’s too late, but even though I try to have high hopes, I sometimes think it’s already too late; people are stuck in their own ways. It’s going to take a lot of praying and a lot of years to turn things around.
I agree with you there. Keep on sending the message, keep on writing. You never know, the tide can turn. But I understand what you mean, as well 🙏 have a great night 😊
