In the corners of the midnight hour,
Where shadows creep and silence cowers,
A whisper crawls from out the ground,
A haunted wail, a ghostly sound.
Beneath the soil, the dead still wait,
Their restless souls, consumed by fate.
But some are cursed, forever lost,
A chilling cold, a deadly cost.
The Forgotten Ones—they rise each year,
When Halloween’s dark veil draws near.
Their hollow eyes, a soulless gaze,
Emerging from the endless haze.
They walk in silence, leave no track,
They haunt the living, pull them back.
To where the ground is cold and deep,
And where the lost forever sleep.
You hear them in the creaking floor,
The rattling of your bedroom door,
The breath you feel upon your neck,
But turn around—there’s nothing left.
Their touch, it drains the warmth away,
They steal the light, they steal the day.
And when they come, you cannot run,
For they are shadows, they are none.
The Forgotten Ones—they want to be,
As real as those they used to see.
But time has rotted flesh from bone,
And now they live in darkness, alone.
They reach for you with fingers frail,
Their whispers rising on the gale,
“Come with us, join the forgotten,
Where memories lie still and rotten.”
They feed on fear, they feast on dread,
A living soul is what they’re fed.
So when you walk alone at night,
Beware the ones just out of sight.
For if you catch their hollow stare,
It’s far too late, you’re in their snare.
And soon, you too, will walk the line,
Between the living and divine.
So listen close to what I say,
On Halloween, keep them at bay.
For once they touch, you’re never free—
A Forgotten One, you’ll also be.

Spooky, John.
Thank you very much, Mary! I hope you have a great night. 😎
Great and Haunting Poem my Friend. Your use of language is both lyrical and haunting, drawing readers into a world where fear and nostalgia blend seamlessly. The idea that these lost souls yearn for connection, yet become a source of dread, is particularly powerful.
Thank you very much, Willie! I appreciate that. I’m glad the poem had that haunting feel and the message came through. I was definitely trying to achieve that. It’s always good to know when those deeper emotions come through in the writing. Thanks again, and I hope you have a great night. 😎
