APPLE: SYSTEM REFINEMENTS, AI INFUSION, AND A THINNER FUTURE
iOS, iPadOS, and macOS Updates
- iOS 18.5 and iPadOS 18.5 are now live. These updates fix over 30 security vulnerabilities, improve app switching fluidity, and include early-stage “memory context zones” to prep for Apple’s upcoming AI integrations.
- macOS 15.5 drops with stability patches, Mail app enhancements, and performance improvements targeting M2 and M3 chipsets.
- watchOS 11.5 includes reliability upgrades for biometric syncing, plus behind-the-scenes updates for new Apple Health features set to roll out in June.
- tvOS 18.5 and visionOS 2.5 both focus on platform stability ahead of summer feature drops expected during WWDC.
Firmware: AirPods Max (USB-C)
Apple has quietly pushed firmware 7E108 for USB-C AirPods Max models. The update improves battery prediction, audio spatialization, and resolves occasional Bluetooth dropouts in multi-device use.

- Apple CarPlay Ultra is confirmed to launch with Aston Martin later this year. It expands Apple’s interface across the entire car dashboard and will offer real-time Siri control for speed, climate, and vehicle diagnostics.
- Apple Intelligence SDK will be unveiled at WWDC 2025. This toolkit will allow developers to plug directly into Apple’s on-device AI models, with special support for context-aware behavior across apps.
- iPhone 17 Air is in late-stage testing. It’s rumored to be the thinnest iPhone ever, at 5.5mm, with a 2,800mAh high-density silicon battery and featherlight casing around 145 grams. Apple is reportedly testing passive heat dispersion tech to avoid thermal throttling at that size.
ANDROID: SECURITY BOOSTS, UI REWORKS, AND XR HORIZONS
OS and Security Updates
- Android 16 QPR1 Beta 1 has landed. This marks a major visual refresh under the Material 3 Expressive Design, including changes to the notification shade, lock screen, launcher transitions, and updated quick settings UI.
- The May 2025 Android Security Bulletin covers multiple CVEs, including those affecting MediaCodec, System UI, and wireless firmware layers. All Pixel devices from the Pixel 6 onward are included in the patch scope.
- Samsung Galaxy S23 Series received its May security patch, addressing 58 CVEs and 20 Samsung-specific vulnerabilities, including a kernel-level permissions issue that had been exploited in the wild.

- Android XR Smart Glasses: Google’s partnership with Gentle Monster and Warby Parker has yielded a sleek pair of AI-enabled smart glasses. They feature real-time translation, contextual alerts, and embedded Gemini AI processing for heads-up tasks.
- Nothing Phone 3: Expected this summer, it’s rumored to include the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, a 5,000mAh battery, and a triple-lens AI camera array. It will reportedly debut with Android 15 pre-installed.
- Xiaomi Civi 5 Pro: Set for a May 22 launch in China, this model features a curved 6.55-inch OLED display, Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chip, Android 15, and a Leica-developed imaging suite.
- Desktop Mode: Android 17 may ship with an integrated Desktop Mode, letting users dock their phone into a monitor and use it like a full PC. Initial testing shows it will support app window resizing, drag-and-drop file transfers, and external keyboard integration.
