Almost in synchrony with the rail sabotage, pro-Russian hacktivist groups claimed credit for launching DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attacks against digital infrastructure associated with the summit. While officials haven’t confirmed the extent of the disruption, the timing suggests a coordinated hybrid operation — physical sabotage paired with cyber destabilization.

With 27,000 Dutch police officers — nearly half the national force — redeployed for the summit, and military support personnel supplementing outer perimeter security, the Netherlands is operating in a state of controlled tension.
“In combination with the summit where we’ve closed down highways, and people rely on public transport a lot more, of course this [incident] is an extra nuisance and challenge,” van Weel admitted. “But we’ll fix it.”
