The case out of Brooklyn is one of the clearest reminders that terrorism in the modern era doesn’t always require armies, cells, or even proximity. Sometimes it grows in encrypted channels, evolves inside digital echo chambers, and spreads through manifestos written by people who see violence not as a means, but as an identity. And sometimes, the architect behind it all is a single man hiding behind multiple names.
Federal prosecutors announced that Michail Chkhikvishvili, a Georgian national operating under aliases like “Mishka,” “Michael,” “Commander Butcher,” and “Butcher,” has pled guilty to charges that expose the core of an international extremist syndicate known as the Maniac Murder Cult — a group built on racial hatred, violent propaganda, and the recruitment of individuals to carry out real-world attacks targeting Jewish communities, racial minorities, and even children.
Chkhikvishvili wasn’t just a participant. He was one of the group’s primary organizers, a node of influence and direction who used encrypted platforms like Telegram to push followers toward bombings, poisonings, school shootings, and mass casualty events. He was extradited from Moldova earlier this year, a move that underscores not only the severity of his actions but the international reach of the organization he helped lead.
In June 2022, Chkhikvishvili traveled to Brooklyn, moving into the physical geography of the city he would later target. By July 2022, he was actively encouraging followers to commit violent hate crimes, communicating through channels designed to shield him from detection. What he didn’t know was that one of the “followers” he believed he was radicalizing was actually an undercover FBI employee. That mistake would eventually collapse his network and expose the full scope of his intentions.
For years, Chkhikvishvili distributed a manifesto he authored called the “Hater’s Handbook”, a document filled with instructions, ideological justification, and tactical guidance urging readers to commit acts of mass violence. These weren’t abstract fantasies. They included directives advocating school shootings, bombings, and targeted attacks on minorities. The document became a symbolic centerpiece of Maniac Murder Cult’s propaganda loop — a digital scripture for violence written by a man who saw young recruits as weapons waiting to be activated.
By November 2023, Chkhikvishvili had escalated his efforts and began openly soliciting the undercover agent to commit violent crimes for the organization. This wasn’t casual extremism. It was operational planning. He asked the agent to carry out bombings and arsons aimed at harming Jews and racial minorities, including detailed operational instructions and suggestions for attack vectors.
The plot evolved into something even more depraved. Prosecutors revealed that he intended to orchestrate a mass casualty attack on New Year’s Eve, using a Santa Claus disguise to distribute poisoned candy to minority communities — an act designed to weaponize a symbol of innocence and joy as a delivery system for lethal toxins. By January, his focus narrowed further. He instructed the undercover agent to specifically target Jewish neighborhoods, Jewish schools, and Jewish children in Brooklyn with poison. He sent manuals detailing how to produce chemical agents, including ricin — a toxin that has no antidote, no medical counterplay, and a lethality that makes it a favored weapon among extremist fantasists.
This was not theoretical encouragement. Prosecutors made clear that Chkhikvishvili’s actions had already produced real-world consequences. The Maniac Murder Cult’s propaganda reached young adherents around the world and influenced attacks that resulted in injuries, deaths, and widespread trauma.
In January 2025, a 17-year-old in Nashville carried out a school shooting at Antioch High School, killing one person and wounding another before dying by suicide. The attack was livestreamed. The attacker referenced Chkhikvishvili in his audio recordings and included explicit references to Maniac Murder Cult in his manifesto.
In August 2024, another attacker in Eskisehir, Turkey stabbed multiple victims outside a mosque while wearing a tactical vest emblazoned with Nazi symbols. That attacker circulated the “Hater’s Handbook” beforehand and tied his actions directly to the propaganda Chkhikvishvili had been distributing.
This wasn’t merely radicalization. It was command-and-control over a distributed, ideology-driven network capable of lethal violence across borders.
Federal officials did not mince words. The Attorney General called the group “violent, nihilistic, racist” and emphasized that the investigative work prevented mass casualties. The FBI Director highlighted that Chkhikvishvili intended to poison children — a statement that makes clear the depth of depravity behind the organization’s operational goals. Assistant Attorney General John Eisenberg described the group’s plots as “monstrous,” detailing how its ideology directly resulted in killings abroad. And the U.S. Attorney made explicit that the defendant recruited others into committing hate crimes, with that incitement translating into real victims — real injuries — real death.
The investigation itself highlights the architecture of modern counterterrorism. This was not one agency working alone. It required the coordination of the New York Joint Terrorism Task Force, the NYPD, over 50 federal, state, and local agencies, the Department of State, Customs and Border Protection, the Justice Department’s Office of International Affairs, and the government of Moldova, all working together to track him, arrest him, and extradite him to the United States.
Chkhikvishvili now faces a maximum sentence of 40 years in federal prison, a term that reflects the scale of what he attempted to build — and the violence that his ideology helped unleash around the world.
This case is a reminder of the evolving face of modern extremism: decentralized groups that recruit digitally, radicalize quickly, operate globally, and target the most vulnerable. The platforms they use were not designed for protection. They were designed for connection. And it takes only one individual with doctrine, charisma, and a willingness to weaponize hate to convert digital chaos into real-world harm.
Today’s guilty plea marks the collapse of one such individual — but not the end of the ideology he helped fuel.

That will teach him.
You’re right, Michael — and honestly, it’s a reminder of something bigger.
People like him don’t just wake up one day and decide to step back from the edge. They only stop when the system forces them to. And in cases like this, accountability isn’t just punishment — it’s prevention.
Some damage you can’t undo, but you can damn sure stop it from happening again.
Thanks, Michael — I hope you have a great day. 😎
It’s great news that they caught this guy and he will probably be going away for a long time. The Attorney General was spot on to call the group “violent, nihilistic, racist.” Evil is another good word to describe anyone who would plan things like this. I’m sure there are others like this guy out there and I’m sure the FBI among others are keeping a close lookout. It must feel good to thwart the things this guy was planning. At the same time, it only means that there is someone similar to him out there who needs to be caught.
Thank you for the good news, John, and I hope you have a great night!
You’re welcome, Chris — stopping someone like this is a major win, but it also exposes the uncomfortable truth that he isn’t the only one out there. Groups like this are built on hate, violence, and pure nihilism, and when someone goes this far, it’s because they intended to follow through. The Attorney General called it exactly what it is, and I’m glad the investigation cut things off before anyone got hurt. And you’re right — every time one of these cases is taken down, it’s a reminder that there’s always another one forming in the background. That’s why these agencies stay on it around the clock.
Thank you for the thoughtful insight, Chris. I hope you have a great night as well. 😎
Thank you for your reply, John, and thank you for your kind words!
