Federal authorities and university police are intensifying their search for an armed robbery suspect dubbed the “Cougar Campus Crook” following a bold daytime bank robbery on the University of Houston campus — an incident that has raised concerns about campus-area financial institutions and offender mobility in densely populated academic environments.
The FBI Houston Violent Crime Task Force, working jointly with the University of Houston Police Department, is leading the investigation. Crime Stoppers of Houston has announced a reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to the suspect’s identification and arrest.
Armed Robbery on Active Campus Grounds
The robbery occurred at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, inside the Texas Dow Employees Credit Union (TDECU) branch located at 4455 University Drive, directly on the University of Houston campus.
According to investigators, the suspect entered the credit union during normal business hours, displayed a black handgun, and handed a teller a written demand note ordering the surrender of cash. Facing an immediate threat, the teller complied. The suspect fled the scene on foot, taking an undisclosed amount of money.
No injuries were reported, though authorities emphasize the psychological impact and elevated risk associated with armed robberies conducted in high-traffic, civilian-dense locations.
Suspect Description and Modus Operandi
The suspect is described as:
- Black male
- Late 20s to early 30s
- Approximately 6’2” tall
- Medium build
- Unkempt goatee
At the time of the robbery, the suspect was wearing:
- A dark Houston Astros baseball cap
- Black hooded sweatshirt
- White shoes
- Carrying a large black Puma duffel bag
Investigators believe the suspect’s choice of clothing and the use of a campus-adjacent financial institution suggest situational awareness and deliberate targeting, potentially indicating prior familiarity with the area or campus routines.
Task Force Focus and Public Safety Implications
The FBI Violent Crime Task Force typically deploys in cases involving armed offenders, serial robbery patterns, or elevated public-risk scenarios. The location of this robbery — inside an active university campus during peak hours — places the case into a higher priority category due to the potential for escalation and repeat offenses.
Authorities are examining:
- Surveillance footage from campus and surrounding areas
- Possible prior robberies with similar methods
- Transit routes and escape pathways commonly used near the university
- Whether the suspect may be connected to other unsolved robberies in the Houston area
How to Submit Information
Crime Stoppers of Houston is offering up to $5,000 for tips leading to the suspect’s arrest. All tips remain anonymous.
- Crime Stoppers Tip Line: 713-222-TIPS (8477)
- FBI Houston Field Office: (713) 693-5000
Investigators urge anyone who recognizes the suspect or has information related to the robbery to come forward immediately. Even seemingly minor details may prove critical.
TRJ Assessment
Armed robberies conducted in broad daylight on university campuses represent a high-risk convergence of civilian density, financial targets, and offender mobility. The rapid involvement of a federal task force underscores the seriousness of the threat and the need to disrupt any potential pattern before escalation occurs.

I have to admit, “cougar” caught my eye. I couldn’t figure out how an older woman or cat would be robbing a bank. Ha!
Yes yes, I agree with Chris though.
Thank you very much, Sheila — and you’re not the only one who did a double take at that name. It definitely stands out. But you’re right, the situation itself is serious, and I’m with you and Chris on hoping they get this individual into custody quickly and safely. Always appreciate you reading and chiming in. I hope you have a great day. 😎
I pray that they catch this guy quickly and without incident.
Thank you for this report.
You’re very welcome, Chris — and I agree. Cases like this demand a fast, steady response, and the priority is always to bring someone like this into custody without putting anyone else at risk. The sooner he’s caught, the sooner that threat is removed from the community. Thank you again, Chris — always appreciate you taking the time to read and follow these reports. 😎
You’re welcome, John, and thank you for your good response.
