The FBI Washington Field Office is requesting public assistance as part of an ongoing federal investigation into a former District of Columbia high school teacher charged with serious child exploitation offenses.
John Aaron Gass, formerly employed as a teacher at the District of Columbia International School, was arrested and charged by criminal complaint with production of child sexual abuse material in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 2251 and coercion and enticement of a minor in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 2422, according to federal court filings.
Investigators allege that Gass sexually abused a minor child on multiple occasions. Court documents state that at least two of these incidents were recorded, forming the basis for the production charge. Federal authorities have not publicly disclosed the age of the victim, the duration of the alleged abuse, or whether additional victims may exist, citing the sensitivity of the investigation and victim protection protocols.
The case is being handled by the FBI’s Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force, a specialized unit responsible for identifying victims, dismantling exploitation networks, and pursuing offenders who target minors through abuse, coercion, or digital recording.
As part of that effort, the FBI is actively seeking information from anyone who may have had contact with Gass, either directly or through school, extracurricular, or community-related settings. Parents, guardians, former students, or individuals with relevant knowledge are encouraged to come forward, even if the information appears minor or indirect.
Individuals with information may submit tips anonymously through the FBI’s national tip line at 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324) or through the FBI’s secure online tip portal. The Bureau has emphasized that all tips are reviewed and handled according to federal investigative standards, with victim safety as the highest priority.
Federal law mandates that the FBI make reasonable efforts to identify victims in cases involving child exploitation. Individuals who are identified as victims may be eligible for protections, services, and potential restitution under federal and state law. Participation in the information-gathering process is voluntary, but officials note that responses can be critical to establishing timelines, identifying additional victims, and strengthening the evidentiary record.
Authorities stress that a criminal complaint represents an allegation, not a conviction. As with all federal cases, the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

If this guy is proven to be guilty, this is a very sad story. I hope they have success in information gathering. I’m thankful for the FBI’s Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force. It is much needed in our times. I also hope that justice is done in this case and that any victim will eventually heal as much as possible.
