When boxes fold and ornaments come down,
And pine needles stop falling to the ground,
When music fades from every crowded store
And normal starts knocking at the door—
Not everything the season gave will leave,
Some things stay put without our asking leave.
They settle deep, where habits rarely go,
And shape the ways we move and speak and know.
We carry how it felt to slow our pace,
To meet each other fully, face to face.
To finish stories, listening till the end,
And hold a moment like a trusted friend.
We carry how forgiveness felt that day
When pride stepped back and let us have our way—
Not the loud way, not the winning kind,
But mercy practiced quiet, strong, and kind.
We carry laughter that arrived unplanned,
The joy that didn’t need to understand.
The proof that happiness can still appear
Without permission from the coming year.
We carry how the table made us whole,
How being seen restored a missing role.
How no one asked us to explain our worth,
They simply saved a place and shared the earth.
Christmas was never trapped in dates or decor,
It never lived in what we bought or wore.
It lived in how we showed up, stayed, and chose
The better parts we don’t always show.
So when the year turns sharp and days grow fast,
And kindness feels like something of the past,
Remember what you learned when time stood still—
And let that Christmas follow where you will.
