Detroit-Based Drug Trafficking Conduit Dismantled in Federal Meth and Fentanyl Case

A Detroit man has pleaded guilty in federal court to aiding and abetting the distribution of large quantities of methamphetamine, concluding one strand of a broader investigation into a multi-state drug trafficking organization operating between Michigan and southern West Virginia.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of West Virginia, Darnell Marice McCarver, 19, also known as “WAP,” entered a guilty plea on January 6, 2026, to one count of aiding and abetting the distribution of 50 grams or more of a methamphetamine mixture. The offense is tied to a drug trafficking organization that distributed methamphetamine and fentanyl in and around the Huntington area.

Remote Coordination, Local Distribution

Court records show that on August 27, 2025, McCarver coordinated the sale of approximately 63.5 grams of methamphetamine to a confidential informant. Although physically located in Detroit at the time, McCarver used a FaceTime video call to direct the informant to a residence in Huntington, West Virginia, where another individual completed the transaction.

Investigators determined that McCarver functioned as a remote coordinator, arranging deliveries, directing buyers, and managing supply while remaining outside the immediate distribution zone. He admitted to coordinating methamphetamine and fentanyl distribution on multiple occasions between April and August 2025, underscoring the role of encrypted and video-based communications in modern drug-trafficking logistics.

Search, Seizure, and Admissions

On September 10, 2025, law enforcement arrested McCarver and executed a search warrant at his Detroit residence. The search yielded:

• Approximately 950 grams of methamphetamine
• 48 grams of fentanyl
• Four firearms
• $8,764 in cash recovered from the residence
• $4,479 seized from McCarver’s person

McCarver admitted that he stored controlled substances at his Detroit residence for distribution into the Southern District of West Virginia and elsewhere. He further acknowledged that the seized narcotics were intended for distribution and that the recovered cash represented proceeds from drug trafficking activity.

Charges, Penalties, and Co-Defendants

McCarver is scheduled for sentencing on April 13, 2026. He faces a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in federal prison, with exposure of up to 40 years, a minimum of four years of supervised release, and a potential fine of up to $5 million.

He is one of ten defendants charged in the indictment alleging participation in the drug trafficking organization. McCarver and two co-defendants have pleaded guilty; charges against the remaining defendants are pending. As with all federal prosecutions, an indictment constitutes an allegation, and all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

Multi-Agency Enforcement Effort

The case was announced by U.S. Attorney Moore Capito, who credited a coordinated investigation involving the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Drug Enforcement Administration, Cabell County Sheriff’s Office, Mason County Sheriff’s Office, and the Huntington Police Department.

The plea hearing was presided over by U.S. District Judge Robert C. Chambers, and the case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Courtney L. Finney.

Enforcement Dynamics

Federal officials noted that the case forms part of Operation Take Back America, a Department of Justice initiative aimed at dismantling drug trafficking organizations, disrupting transnational criminal supply chains, and reducing the flow of fentanyl and methamphetamine into U.S. communities.

Authorities emphasized that the use of remote coordination, out-of-state supply hubs, and digital communication platforms continues to shape modern narcotics trafficking, requiring cross-jurisdictional enforcement strategies and sustained interagency cooperation.
