A federal grand jury in the Northern District of Florida has returned an indictment charging a Tallahassee man with serious child exploitation offenses involving the transportation and possession of child sexual abuse material, according to federal authorities.
Cedrick Campbell, 35, of Tallahassee, Florida, is charged with one count of transportation of child pornography and one count of possession and access with intent to view child pornography. The charges were announced by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Florida following the grand jury action.
Campbell made his initial appearance on January 5, 2026, before United States Magistrate Judge Martin A. Fitzpatrick at the federal courthouse in Tallahassee. During the proceeding, the court formally advised him of the charges and scheduled the matter for trial. Jury selection and trial are currently set to begin on March 2, 2026, at 8:15 a.m. before United States District Judge Robert L. Hinkle.
If convicted on both counts, Campbell faces a potential sentence of up to 20 years in federal prison for each charge, reflecting the severity with which federal law treats crimes involving the sexual exploitation of children. Sentencing would be determined by the court based on statutory guidelines, offense conduct, and other factors established at trial.
The investigation that led to the indictment was conducted jointly by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Tallahassee Police Department. Federal authorities have not publicly disclosed investigative methods or the scope of the digital evidence involved, which is common in ongoing child exploitation cases to protect victims and preserve judicial integrity.
The prosecution is being handled by Assistant United States Attorney Meredith L. Steer on behalf of the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Florida. Federal prosecutors emphasized that the indictment itself is a formal accusation issued by a grand jury and does not constitute a finding of guilt. Under the law, the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide federal initiative launched in 2006 to identify, investigate, and prosecute individuals involved in the sexual exploitation of children, particularly crimes facilitated through digital platforms and online networks. The program coordinates federal, state, and local law enforcement resources to disrupt exploitation networks, remove offenders from circulation, and identify victims where possible.
The United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Florida operates as one of 94 federal prosecutorial districts nationwide, serving as the primary litigating authority for federal criminal and civil matters within its jurisdiction. Cases involving child exploitation remain among the highest enforcement priorities due to the lasting harm inflicted on victims and the organized nature of many online abuse networks.
The proceedings against Campbell will continue through the federal court system as scheduled, with further details expected to emerge through pretrial filings and courtroom proceedings.

Go Project Safe Childhood! I am so pleased that federal, state, and local law enforcement resources are deployed and working together to “disrupt exploitation networks.” I am also pleased that “Cases involving child exploitation remain among the highest enforcement priorities due to the lasting harm inflicted on victims and the organized nature of many online abuse networks.”
I pray that all of those working on this problem stay safe and continue to do this great work!
Thank you for this article.
You’re very welcome, Chris.
You’re absolutely right. Cases involving child exploitation demand a coordinated response, and when federal, state, and local agencies work together effectively, it sends a clear message that these crimes will be pursued aggressively and without hesitation. The organized nature of online exploitation networks makes that collaboration essential, not optional.
Your acknowledgment of the people doing this work matters. These investigations are difficult, prolonged, and emotionally taxing, yet they remain among the most critical enforcement priorities because of the lasting harm inflicted on victims. Disruption, accountability, and prevention are the only acceptable outcomes.
Thank you for reading, for your support, and for keeping the focus on protecting the vulnerable and stopping abuse at its source. 😎
You’re welcome, John. In my thoughts these cases should be near the top priority. I’m so glad to see the coordination that is happening in law enforcement.
I can imagine this work would be difficult. Having to view this awful stuff in order to get convictions would be mentally taxing. I hope these officers are getting good rest during their time off.
Thanks again for this valuable report.
