February draws a line
Across the gray and bare,
And threads a pulse of living red
Through brittle winter air.
The storefront gleams in scarlet hue,
With velvet draped in twine,
For Valentine’s Day paints the glass
In ritual and sign.
Yet deeper than the sugared gloss
That lingers in the air,
There moves a steadier, braver pulse—
A vow both strong and rare.
It is not merely roses bound
In ribbon, silk, and thread,
Nor candy hearts with borrowed vows
In fragile letters read.
It is the risk of open hands
With nothing left to hide,
The strength to let affection stand
Where doubt would once reside.
It is the note that shakes in ink,
The truth that will not stall,
The quiet knock at guarded doors
That dares to break a wall.
It is the thaw beneath the snow,
The shift beneath the seam,
The sudden proof that hardened hearts
Are softer than they seem.
