Multi-State Federal Investigation Underway After Vehicle Ramming at Nevada Electrical Substation

A coordinated federal and multi-state law enforcement investigation is underway following a vehicle ramming incident at an electrical substation in Boulder City, Nevada on February 19, 2026. Search warrants executed at the crash site and a hotel room in Boulder City resulted in the seizure of multiple weapons and materials. Items recovered from the vehicle included two shotguns, a tactical-style rifle, ammunition, body armor, two commercial-grade flamethrowers, precursor chemicals, and electronic devices. Additional ammunition, precursor chemicals, and literature described by investigators as reflective of domestic terrorism ideology were recovered from the associated hotel room.

Parallel investigative actions were conducted in Albany, New York following a records review indicating that the Albany Police Department had previously been requested to conduct a welfare check on Maloney and had filed a missing persons report. The report documented prior communications allegedly sent to family and acquaintances containing suicidal statements and ideological language consistent with extremist narratives. The FBI Albany Joint Terrorism Task Force, working with the Albany Police Department and the New York State Police, executed search warrants at two Albany-area residences connected to the subject. Electronics, firearm components, and a 3D printer were seized and are currently undergoing forensic analysis.

Preliminary timeline reconstruction indicates that Maloney rented a vehicle in Albany on February 12, 2026, and departed the region two days later, driving cross-country to Nevada prior to the incident. Investigators are continuing to evaluate digital evidence and materials recovered to determine motive, planning indicators, and whether any additional individuals had knowledge of or involvement in the event.
