A violent fugitive who had been evading authorities for nearly a year has been arrested in central Indiana following an FBI-led manhunt targeting individuals who attempt to disappear after committing serious crimes. The arrest was carried out as part of Operation No Escape, a coordinated federal initiative designed to locate and apprehend fugitives who attempt to avoid prosecution by moving across jurisdictions or using false identities.
Federal authorities confirmed that Angel Roman-Hipolito, 37, was taken into custody on March 5, 2026, in Boone County, Indiana, following an extended investigation conducted by the FBI and federal immigration enforcement personnel.
Roman-Hipolito had been wanted on a federal warrant for violating the conditions of his supervised release after previously serving a lengthy federal prison sentence tied to drug trafficking activity.
According to federal records, Roman-Hipolito is a Mexican national who had been living in the United States unlawfully prior to his earlier arrest and conviction. After serving 100 months in federal prison on drug trafficking charges, he was deported from the United States in 2023.
Investigators determined that he later illegally reentered the country, returning without authorization despite the prior deportation order.
In spring 2025, law enforcement officers attempted to conduct a vehicle stop involving Roman-Hipolito. Authorities say he fled during that encounter, triggering a fugitive investigation that placed him on the radar of federal law enforcement teams responsible for tracking individuals who evade arrest.
Following the escape, federal investigators began coordinating across agencies to determine Roman-Hipolito’s movements and possible locations.
The search ultimately led agents to Boone County, Indiana, where investigators tracked his presence through a combination of surveillance, intelligence gathering, and interagency coordination.
When agents moved to arrest him, authorities reported that Roman-Hipolito attempted to conceal his identity by providing a false name and presenting fraudulent identification documents.
Despite the attempt to mislead officers, investigators were able to confirm his identity and take him into custody without reported injuries.
Operation No Escape, the initiative under which the arrest occurred, is an ongoing FBI-led effort that focuses on locating fugitives connected to violent crime, organized criminal activity, and repeat offenders who attempt to avoid capture.
The program relies on cooperation between federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to track individuals who move across jurisdictions or attempt to evade arrest by using aliases, fraudulent documents, or relocation strategies.
Law enforcement officials say fugitives who flee during encounters with police or violate supervised release conditions often attempt to remain hidden by blending into communities, obtaining false identification, or relying on networks that help them avoid detection.
Operations such as No Escape are designed to disrupt those attempts by combining federal investigative resources with local law enforcement intelligence.
Authorities emphasize that supervised release violations can trigger immediate federal action, particularly when the individual involved has a history of serious criminal offenses.
Roman-Hipolito now faces federal proceedings related to the alleged violation of his supervised release conditions, as well as potential additional charges connected to illegal reentry and the possession of fraudulent identification documents.
Federal investigators say the case demonstrates the continuing effort by law enforcement agencies to locate fugitives who attempt to avoid accountability after committing serious crimes.
The arrest operation was conducted through cooperation between the FBI Indianapolis Field Office and Immigration and Customs Enforcement personnel, who worked jointly to track Roman-Hipolito’s movements and bring the fugitive investigation to a close.
Authorities stated that operations targeting fugitive offenders remain a priority for federal law enforcement teams responsible for protecting public safety and enforcing federal criminal statutes.
