A federal criminal complaint has been filed in the District of Columbia charging a registered sex offender with the receipt of child exploitation material following a renewed investigation that identified continued activity after prior conviction and incarceration.
Drew Collin Imparato, 26, of Washington, D.C., has been charged with Receipt of Child Pornography after investigators identified a pattern of digital transactions and platform-based activity tied to the acquisition of illegal material through encrypted messaging services.
According to federal court filings, Imparato was previously convicted in 2019 of interstate travel with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct and distribution of child pornography, for which he was sentenced to five years of incarceration and required to register as a sex offender.
Following his release, investigators determined that Imparato resumed activity by accessing online forums and vendor networks offering exploitative material involving minors. Financial analysis revealed that he spent approximately $12,000 in cryptocurrency-linked transactions to acquire hundreds of files through platforms including Telegram and file-hosting services.
The current investigation was initiated after a CyberTip report flagged suspicious Bitcoin transactions associated with accounts linked to Imparato. Blockchain tracing and financial intelligence identified repeated transfers to wallets associated with networks distributing child sexual abuse material.
Subsequent analysis confirmed that between October 26 and October 31, 2025, Imparato engaged in direct communications with an online seller, receiving multiple large data packages containing illegal content. Investigators identified Mega.nz file repositories totaling over 150 gigabytes of material transmitted through encrypted links during these exchanges.
On April 2, 2026, federal agents executed a search warrant at Imparato’s residence in Washington, D.C. During the operation, agents seized multiple electronic devices, including unmonitored equipment that had not been disclosed to probation authorities.
A forensic review of the devices confirmed access to Telegram-based distribution channels and included records showing cryptocurrency payments tied to the acquisition of illegal material. Agents also identified communications in which Imparato requested access codes, preview content, and additional files from vendors.
During an interview conducted at the time of the search, Imparato admitted to using Telegram to purchase links containing child sexual abuse material and acknowledged locating vendors through online forums. He further confirmed the use of cryptocurrency to complete transactions and stated that he had shared links with other individuals seeking similar material.
The investigation also determined that Imparato maintained unauthorized devices in violation of supervision conditions, which were used to access and conceal this activity.
The case is being investigated by the FBI’s Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Rachel Bohlen.
The charges are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
The case was brought under Project Safe Childhood, a Department of Justice initiative focused on identifying, disrupting, and prosecuting individuals involved in the exploitation of minors through digital platforms.

Safe childhood is very necessary for future generation. Well shared
Thank you very much. I appreciate that.
You’re right—ensuring a safe childhood is fundamental, not just for individuals but for the stability and direction of future generations.
Thank you again for taking the time to read and share your thoughts. 😎
Thank the Lord for Project Safe Childhood. Every child should be able to have just that, a safe childhood. I’m wondering how a guy like this, who has been in prison for 5 years already at 26 years of age, was able to get his hands on $12,000 in cryptocurrency. He is so young that I wonder if he’s had a steady job at all after high school. This story is sad on a number of levels. That these materials are so easily obtained, that they even exist, and that this young man is in bondage to materials like this at such a young age is all concerning. He needs to reach out to the only one who can save him. He needs to reach out to God. I pray that he does that.
Thank you for the good articles today, John. I hope you have a great night and may God bless you and yours always! 😊
You’re very welcome, Chris.
You’re right to point out the different layers in a case like this. The financial side is one of them—funding doesn’t always come from traditional employment. In many of these investigations, money can come from prior activity, online transactions, peer-to-peer transfers, or other sources that don’t follow a standard income path. Cryptocurrency makes that movement easier to obscure and harder to trace in real time.
What stands out more is what you mentioned about access and availability. The infrastructure behind these networks is built to lower barriers—both in how material is distributed and how individuals are brought into it. That’s where coordinated efforts like Project Safe Childhood become critical, because disruption has to happen across multiple layers at once.
I understand your concern about how early this behavior can take hold. That’s something these cases continue to show with consistency. And you’re very right about how reaching out to God can help him.
I greatly appreciate you taking the time to read and share your thoughts, Chris. I hope you have a great night as well and a great day ahead. 😎
Thank you for this good reply, John. The coordination of Project Safe Childhood once again shows how important that is. I’m sure they are already working on where this guy got all of his material.
You’re welcome, John. I enjoy reading your articles. I hope you have a great day ahead as well! 😊
Interesting read,
Thank you very much. 😎
