A federal criminal complaint has been filed against an Albuquerque man following an investigation into an alleged plan to arm an inmate for a coordinated escape attempt involving staged logistics, concealed weapons placement, and multi-location support.
Crisantos Garcia, also known as “Ventex,” 34, identified as a convicted felon and suspected member of the West Side Locos gang, has been charged with possession with intent to distribute controlled substances, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, and being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition. The charges stem from a broader investigation conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation into alleged preparations to facilitate an armed escape from federal custody.
According to court filings, on February 13, 2025, federal and local law enforcement agents executed search warrants at three residences in northwest Albuquerque linked to Garcia. During the operation, Garcia attempted to evade arrest by jumping from a second-story window, sustaining multiple fractures before being taken into custody and transported for medical treatment. Agents recovered his cellular device during that process.
Search operations resulted in the seizure of more than a dozen firearms, including a Draco-style pistol and multiple rifles and handguns, along with thousands of rounds of ammunition, ballistic vests, and high-value assets including a Dodge Hellcat vehicle. Investigators also recovered approximately 151 grams of fentanyl pills. Subsequent laboratory analysis confirmed Garcia’s DNA on two of the seized firearms. Digital evidence extracted from his phone included images of weapons and communications referencing firearms acquisition, ammunition, and narcotics distribution activity.
Investigators allege that Garcia assembled weapons, ammunition, currency, and a stolen vehicle in support of a planned escape orchestrated by Dakota Briscoe, an Albuquerque man currently serving a 25-year federal sentence tied to a violent crime spree that included a 2020 double homicide and multiple armed carjackings. According to investigative findings, Briscoe directed Garcia to conceal a firearm behind an ATM on the second floor of the University of New Mexico Hospital, with additional weapons, cash, and a vehicle staged nearby.
The alleged plan involved Briscoe simulating a medical emergency during a scheduled court appearance on April 15, 2026, prompting transfer to a medical facility where the staged assets would be accessed. Evidence recovered during the investigation includes written instructions outlining coordination procedures, including communication protocols and timing to ensure the presence of a vehicle and weapon at the designated location. Investigators further assess that the escape plan included a route intended to move Briscoe out of the United States and into Mexico following the breach.
On April 14, 2026, agents assigned to the FBI Phoenix Field Office Desert Hawk Fugitive Task Force located Garcia at a residence in Phoenix, Arizona. During the arrest attempt, Garcia fled on foot, moving through residential structures, parking areas, and active traffic zones while accompanied by a minor stepson. During pursuit, Garcia abandoned the child before being apprehended by agents.
Garcia remains in federal custody pending trial. If convicted on the current charges, he faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years and up to 40 years in federal prison.
The investigation involved coordination between the Federal Bureau of Investigation Albuquerque Field Office, the FBI Phoenix Field Office, the U.S. Marshals Service, Albuquerque Police Department, Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office, Metropolitan Detention Center, and Rio Rancho Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of New Mexico.
Federal authorities have stated that the criminal complaint constitutes an allegation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
