ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The FBI Albuquerque Field Office has announced the results of a coordinated undercover online child exploitation investigation that led to the arrest of 15 individuals accused of attempting to engage in sexual activity with minors through electronic communications and online platforms.
According to federal authorities, all defendants arrested during the operation face charges connected to child solicitation using electronic devices and related offenses tied to attempted exploitation of minors.
The investigation was conducted by the FBI Albuquerque Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force and involved coordinated support from multiple federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies across New Mexico.
Participating agencies included the New Mexico Department of Justice, Albuquerque Police Department, Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office, Santa Fe Police Department, the Second Judicial District Attorney’s Office, and the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of New Mexico.
Federal authorities stated the operation centered on undercover online communications designed to identify individuals actively seeking sexual contact with minors through digital platforms, messaging systems, and internet-based communications.
Investigators allege the suspects knowingly initiated or engaged in conversations they believed involved minors before attempting to arrange illegal sexual encounters.
Law enforcement agencies continue warning that online predators increasingly use social media platforms, encrypted messaging applications, gaming networks, disappearing-message services, and anonymous communication tools to identify and target children.
Federal investigators state many offenders attempt to exploit the perceived anonymity of online environments while using grooming tactics that gradually normalize sexual discussions, secrecy, manipulation, and coercion before attempting physical meetings or requesting explicit material.
Authorities also continue warning that offenders frequently misrepresent their identities online, conceal their age, create false personas, and use peer-style language to gain trust from children and teenagers.
The FBI stated operations involving undercover online personas remain one of the most effective methods for intercepting suspected predators before direct physical abuse occurs.
Federal investigators additionally emphasized that child exploitation cases often reveal broader digital networks involving image trading, interstate communications, repeat offenders, and coordinated online communities centered around exploitation activity.
The FBI Albuquerque Field Office stated the operation forms part of the Department of Justice’s Project Safe Childhood initiative, a nationwide enforcement and prevention program launched to combat internet-based child sexual exploitation and identify offenders targeting minors online.
Project Safe Childhood combines federal, state, and local investigative resources to locate predators, disrupt exploitation networks, rescue victims, and prosecute individuals accused of crimes involving child exploitation, online coercion, enticement, and trafficking activity.
Federal authorities continue urging parents and guardians to closely monitor children’s online activity, particularly on platforms involving private messaging, disappearing chats, gaming communication systems, and social networking applications where offenders frequently attempt to establish direct contact with minors.
Investigators also encourage parents to maintain open communication with children regarding online safety, suspicious behavior, manipulation tactics, and attempts by strangers to move conversations onto private or encrypted applications.
The FBI urged the public to report suspected child exploitation activity through the FBI tip line at 1-800-CALL-FBI, online at tips.fbi.gov, or through local FBI field offices.
Authorities also directed the public to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children’s CyberTipline, which operates in partnership with the FBI and other law enforcement agencies to process reports involving online child exploitation, enticement, trafficking, and abuse material investigations.
