SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — The FBI San Juan Field Office has officially opened applications for its 2026 FBI Teen Academy program, offering high school students an inside look at federal law enforcement operations, national security investigations, forensic response procedures, and specialized FBI career pathways.
Special Agent in Charge Carlos R. Goris announced the launch of the 2026 application cycle and described the program as one of the FBI’s most impactful outreach initiatives for students interested in learning about federal investigative operations and public service careers.
According to the FBI, the Teen Academy is designed to expose students to the operational structure and responsibilities of the Bureau through direct interaction with special agents, intelligence analysts, tactical personnel, forensic specialists, and professional support staff working across multiple investigative divisions.
The one-week summer academy is scheduled to run from July 7 through July 11, 2026, and will consist of four days of instruction, demonstrations, hands-on exercises, and graduation activities held through the FBI San Juan Field Office.
Federal officials stated students participating in the academy will receive presentations and practical demonstrations involving counterterrorism investigations, cybercrime operations, public corruption cases, evidence collection procedures, polygraph examinations, tactical response operations, and general FBI field office functions.
The program will also provide students with opportunities to experience simulated investigative scenarios involving evidence processing, witness interviewing techniques, case management operations, intelligence coordination, and crisis-response environments commonly encountered in federal investigations.
According to the FBI, participants may also interact directly with specialized operational units, including SWAT personnel, bomb technicians, evidence response teams, and cyber investigative staff. Demonstrations are expected to include tactical equipment familiarization, forensic response procedures, armored rescue vehicle presentations, and discussions surrounding modern digital investigative techniques increasingly used in cybercrime and national security cases.
Federal officials emphasized the academy is not limited to students pursuing criminal justice careers. The FBI stated the organization continues expanding recruitment interest among students pursuing technology, cybersecurity, linguistics, intelligence analysis, engineering, science, communications, and other specialized professional fields increasingly tied to modern federal investigative work.
The FBI has repeatedly highlighted the growing importance of cyber operations, digital intelligence, foreign threat monitoring, counterintelligence activity, financial investigations, and technology-driven investigative capabilities throughout the Bureau’s evolving mission structure.
Students eligible to apply must be enrolled and actively attending high school during the 2026–2027 academic year and entering grades 9 through 12 by the beginning of the August 2026 school semester. Students graduating high school prior to the program and entering university studies by August 2026 are not eligible.
Applicants are required to complete an official application form, submit a written essay explaining their interest in participating, and obtain both parental consent and school endorsement documentation.
The FBI stated all completed application materials must be submitted electronically no later than 5:00 p.m. on June 1, 2026. Applications submitted late or missing required documentation will not be accepted for review.
Federal officials stated a review panel will evaluate submissions before final selections are made.
The FBI Teen Academy program forms part of broader federal outreach initiatives intended to introduce younger generations to law enforcement careers, intelligence operations, cyber defense responsibilities, and national security-related professions amid increasing demand for skilled personnel across federal investigative and intelligence agencies.
Students interested in participating in the 2026 FBI San Juan Teen Academy must complete the official application and submit all required supporting documentation to sjoutreach@fbi.gov no later than 5:00 p.m. on June 1, 2026. Federal officials stated incomplete or late applications will not be accepted and that all submissions will undergo panel review before final selections are made.
The FBI San Juan Field Office stated it hopes the academy will help inspire future leaders interested in serving within federal law enforcement, cybersecurity, intelligence, forensic science, and national security operations.

This sounds like a great program. I would think there would be a long line of applicants with all of the TV shows about “law and order” these days. My family likes one of the NCIS shows; they are pretty creative and deal with a variety of subjects including some of those mentioned in this article. I hope there are many good applicants.
Thank you for this article.
You’re very welcome, Chris.
Programs like this can definitely generate a lot of interest, especially as younger generations become more exposed to federal investigations, cybersecurity operations, forensic science, intelligence work, and tactical response units through both real-world events and popular television programs.
The FBI has also been placing much greater emphasis on recruiting students interested in technology, cyber operations, intelligence analysis, engineering, and digital investigations as modern threats continue evolving far beyond traditional law enforcement responsibilities alone.
Hopefully the program attracts motivated students who are genuinely interested in public service, cybersecurity, investigative work, and national security-related careers moving forward.
Thank you again for reading and for taking the time to comment, Chris. I greatly appreciate it. I hope you have a great night. 😎
You’re welcome, John, and I appreciate your reply. I can see why the FBI is now placing emphasis on the things you have mentioned. They have become so important these days. If there is some new tech out there, we can almost be assured someone is using it for dishonest reasons. I hope the program attracts just the type of students you are referring to.
Thanks again, John, and I hope you have a great night as well!😊
