BUFFALO, N.Y. — A Tonawanda man has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison after being convicted of possessing child pornography involving prepubescent minors, federal prosecutors announced.
U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo stated that Shawn Demmick, 33, of Tonawanda, New York, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Lawrence J. Vilardo to serve 10 years in prison followed by 35 years of supervised release.
According to court records, Demmick possessed a cellular phone on March 21, 2025, that contained images and videos depicting child pornography. Federal authorities stated that the material included depictions of prepubescent children under the age of 12 engaged in sexually explicit conduct.
The sentence concludes the federal prosecution of the case following Demmick’s conviction on the possession charge. In addition to the prison term, the lengthy period of supervised release will subject him to federal monitoring and conditions following his release from custody.
Federal child exploitation investigations often involve extensive digital forensic examinations, search warrants, and specialized investigative techniques used to identify individuals who possess, distribute, or produce child sexual abuse material. Federal authorities continue to prioritize the investigation and prosecution of offenses involving the sexual exploitation of children.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Charles M. Kruly.
The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation under the direction of Acting Special Agent-in-Charge Brendan Dunford and the Town of Tonawanda Police Department under the direction of Chief Corey Flatau.
Because Demmick has been convicted and sentenced, the criminal conduct described in court records is no longer considered an allegation but a matter of judicial record.
