ERIE, Pa. — A former Erie, Pennsylvania, resident has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison after being convicted of possessing child sexual abuse material, federal prosecutors announced.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Pennsylvania, Dana Lindstrom, 44, formerly of Erie, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Susan Paradise Baxter to 120 months in federal prison, followed by 10 years of supervised release.
According to information presented to the court, investigators determined that in August 2019, Lindstrom possessed videos depicting a minor female engaged in sexually explicit conduct. Federal authorities stated the videos were recovered during a forensic examination of Lindstrom’s cellular phone.
Child sexual abuse material investigations frequently rely on digital forensic examinations of electronic devices, allowing investigators to recover illegally possessed files and other digital evidence that may support federal prosecution. Federal law prohibits the knowing possession, receipt, production, or distribution of child sexual abuse material, with penalties that can include lengthy prison sentences and extended periods of supervised release.
Federal prosecutors presented evidence establishing Lindstrom’s possession of the illegal material, resulting in his conviction and subsequent sentencing in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Christian A. Trabold.
The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Erie Police Department, and the Erie County Detectives Bureau, whose joint investigation led to Lindstrom’s prosecution and conviction.
The case was prosecuted as part of the Department of Justice’s Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative that brings together federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to investigate online child exploitation offenses, prosecute offenders, identify victims, and combat the sexual exploitation of children through coordinated investigative efforts.
