ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A Church Rock woman is facing federal assault charges after prosecutors allege she seriously injured her dating partner during an incident on the Navajo Nation last year.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Mexico, Tiffany Jim, 37, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, has been charged with assault resulting in serious bodily injury and assault of a dating partner resulting in substantial bodily injury.
According to federal authorities, the alleged assault occurred on September 10, 2025, when Jim allegedly assaulted the victim, identified in court documents as Jane Doe. Prosecutors said the victim sustained injuries severe enough to require hospitalization.
Court documents released by federal prosecutors do not provide additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault or the extent of the victim’s injuries.
Because the alleged offenses occurred within Indian Country and involve an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, the case falls under federal jurisdiction pursuant to federal law governing certain major crimes committed in tribal communities.
Jim has been released under court-imposed conditions while the case proceeds through the federal court system. A trial date has not yet been scheduled.
If convicted on the charges, Jim faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in federal prison.
First Assistant U.S. Attorney Ryan Ellison and Justin A. Garris, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Albuquerque Field Office, announced the charges.
The investigation is being conducted by the Gallup Resident Agency of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office with assistance from the Navajo Nation Police Department and the Navajo Department of Criminal Investigations. Assistant U.S. Attorney Seth Teleky is prosecuting the case.
Federal authorities emphasized that the charges contained in the criminal complaint are allegations. Tiffany Jim is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

Thank you for sharing this. I learned about this quite some time ago from one of your other reports on an Indian land incident. The maximum sentence here is pretty hefty. I hope this woman gets a fair trial and is given the appropriate sentence if found guilty.
Thank you for this article.
You’re very welcome, Chris.
I’m glad those earlier articles helped provide some context. Federal jurisdiction in Indian Country is one of those areas of law that many people aren’t familiar with until a case like this brings it into the spotlight.
As this case moves through the court system, the evidence will ultimately determine the outcome. If she’s found guilty, I hope the sentence reflects both the seriousness of the offense and the interests of justice for everyone involved.
Thank you again for reading the article and for your thoughtful comment, Chris. I hope you have a great day ahead. 😎
You’re welcome, John, and thank you for this reply. Of course, I agree with you about the outcome of this case. If guilty, I also hope the sentence reflects both the seriousness of the offense and the interests for everyone involved.
Thanks again, John, and I hope you have a great day as well!😊
